Job summary

Credit Union West is seeking an Information Security Administrator I to support security operations, incident response, and governance. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, IT, CS or related field is required or equivalent experience.

  • 0–2 years of IT/cybersecurity experience, with security operations, monitoring, or compliance exposure.

POSITION SUMMARY

Enhances the quality of life for members and team members by consistently following and demonstrating the WEST service model, delivering service that meets or exceeds expectations. The Information Security Administrator I ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the organization’s information systems and data by actively supporting security operations, monitoring and analyzing security events, and executing defined security controls. This role contributes to the implementation and ongoing effectiveness of security technologies and processes, supports incident response and compliance activities, and identifies security risks requiring remediation or escalation.

This position works closely with IT and business teams to support organizational goals while building the technical depth, operational discipline, and situational awareness required for expanded responsibility within the information security function. The role maintains strict confidentiality of systems, records, and sensitive data and consistently meets performance standards related to service expectations, operational reliability, and regulatory obligations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Security Operations - Support day‑to‑day security operations by monitoring and analyzing security systems and alerts across the enterprise environment, including network security controls such as firewalls, endpoint protection platforms, secure email gateways, data loss prevention technologies, and vulnerability management tools. Review security telemetry and logs, investigate alerts, and support forensic evidence collection and documentation in accordance with established procedures. Execute approved security configurations and maintenance activities under defined change controls, supports identity and access management processes, encryption controls, and security monitoring across on‑premises and cloud environments, and maintain accurate, timely documentation of security activities, findings, and actions taken.

Incident Response & Compliance - Investigate and document security incidents, suspicious activity, and policy violations, including events identified through firewall alerts, data loss prevention controls, endpoint detection technologies, and advanced analytics used to surface anomalous behavior. Perform initial analysis, evidence preservation, and containment actions within defined authority and expedite complex, high‑risk, or enterprise‑impacting incidents to senior information security staff as required. Support regulatory, audit, and compliance activities by collecting forensic artifacts, maintaining logs and case documentation, and validating control effectiveness in alignment with applicable security frameworks, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.

Security Program Execution & Improvement - Contribute to the execution and continuous improvement of the information security program by supporting security reviews for systems, applications, and infrastructure changes. Perform assigned assessments; document identified risks and assists with mitigation and remediation efforts. Identify recurring security issues, control gaps, or operational inefficiencies and communicate findings and recommendations through established channels. Evaluate insights generated by security platforms that leverage automation or advanced analytics and maintain awareness of emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and evolving security technologies relevant to assigned responsibilities to improve operational effectiveness.

Collaboration & Security Enablement - Collaborate closely with IT and business teams to support secure operations and reinforce security requirements and best practices. Provide technical input to project teams, support security awareness initiatives, and help ensure security considerations are incorporated into day‑to‑day technology operations. Act as a reliable security partner by communicating clearly, supporting shared objectives, and contributing to a culture of security across the organization.

Technology Governance & Innovation - Evaluate, implement, and manage emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, in alignment with the credit union’s technology strategy, security standards, data governance practices, and regulatory expectations.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION: A bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is required, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant hands‑on experience. Foundational knowledge of information security principles, IT systems, and enterprise technology environments is expected. Entry‑level or foundational security certifications such as CompTIA Security+, ISC² Certified in Cybersecurity (CC), or similar credentials are preferred but not required.

EXPERIENCE: 0–2 years of experience in information technology, cybersecurity, or a related technical role. Hands‑on work in security operations, system administration, networking, infrastructure support, or comparable technical environments with security controls, monitoring, or compliance considerations. Exposure to security monitoring, alert triage, incident investigation, vulnerability management, access control processes, and/or compliance support is preferred. Experience in regulated or audit‑driven environments preferred.

Maintain working knowledge of Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and collaborative tools (Teams and Zoom).

Thorough knowledge and understanding of organization’s Employee Handbook and policies.

Must demonstrate functional knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act in addition to other Federal laws, including but not limited to U.S. Patriot Act, Office of Foreign Assets & Control, Anti‑Money Laundering, Right to Financial Privacy Act, and the Bank Bribery Act.
