Job summary

Intermountain Health in Murray, Utah is seeking a Senior Clinical & Health Informaticist to advance the science of informatics. This is an exciting field where experts innovate, design, simplify and translate technology to equitably support the Intermountain Health mission and vision. The role is responsible to independently perform workflow and system analysis and functional design for software development / configuration activities associated with the EHR and other Health Information Technology (HIT)-related initiatives. Caregivers in this role are also responsible to participate in the implementation, training, adoption and process improvement of the EHR and other clinical applications.

The role is responsible to independently perform workflow and system analysis and functional design for software development / configuration activities associated with the EHR and other Health Information Technology (HIT)-related initiatives. Caregivers in this role are also responsible to participate in the implementation, training, adoption and process improvement of the EHR and other clinical applications. The Informaticist functions as a liaison with business and clinical users and the software development / application teams to ensure solutions are designed with safety, the clinician experience, and clinical best practices in mind. This position utilizes an advanced informatics skillset, to support and periodically lead complex projects independently. Utilize knowledge of workflows in an integrated healthcare system to positively impact the use of technology by caregivers Form relationships with members of the care team with diverse backgrounds Work flex hours based on project requirements Effectively use change management, organizational skills and continuous improvement in projects and day to day work. Independently prioritize and organize work with attention to detail and limited supervision or revision.

This position is variable based on department need, with a typical work schedule of Monday - Friday, 8AM - 5PM excluding holidays.

Essential Functions
  • Advanced clinical informaticists improve clinical care, caregiver experience, operational performance, and adoption of health technology.
  • They connect clinical practice, operational needs, technology design, and organizational strategy.
  • They support workflow improvement, system optimization, change leadership, governance, analytics, and innovation.
  • Workflow analysis and optimization: Assess current workflows, identify friction points, and redesign processes to improve safety, efficiency, and clinician experience.
  • Functional design and solution architecture: Translate clinical and operational needs into functional requirements, system designs, and practical technology solutions.
  • EHR and clinical systems expertise: Apply deep knowledge of Epic, clinical applications, configuration, integration, security, compliance, and system optimization.
  • Clinical adoption and change leadership: Lead training, communication, go-live readiness, adoption measurement, and stabilization during workflow or technology changes.
  • Clinical decision support: Design and evaluate tools such as alerts, order sets, and workflow supports that promote evidence-based, safe, and effective care.
  • Data analytics and outcome evaluation: Use data, dashboards, performance measures, and outcomes to guide decisions and demonstrate improvement.
  • Interoperability and integrated systems: Understand how information flows across applications, departments, interfaces, APIs, and care settings.
  • Governance and compliance: Support or lead prioritization, policy alignment, regulatory review, risk mitigation, and enterprise decision-making.
  • Project and program leadership: Independently manage complex initiatives, coordinate cross-functional teams, communicate risks, and deliver measurable outcomes.
  • Communication and partnerships: Serve as a trusted liaison between clinicians, operational leaders, and technical teams while translating complex concepts clearly.
  • AI and emerging technologies: Evaluate innovation opportunities, support responsible technology adoption, and align emerging tools with safety, governance, and clinical value.
  • Senior Level periprocedural informatics includes:
  • Standardizing procedural workflows across service lines.
  • Leading clinical governance and prioritization.
  • Driving Epic optimization and enhancement strategy.
  • Managing complex stakeholder relationships.
  • Supporting regulatory, safety, and operational alignment.
  • Mentoring informatics teams and developing competencies.
Skills
  • Demonstrated informatics experience performing gap analysis, usability assessments, problem definition, HIT optimization, clinical workflow analysis, and other core informatics skills
  • Experience influencing clinical leaders, providers, nurses, and other clinicians in decision making and conflict resolution
  • Experience applying informatics fundamentals (People, Process, Technology) to impact quality and safety
  • Experience successfully leading complex projects or initiatives, small project teams, and achieving the desired budget, outcomes and goals
  • Experience working with Cerner, Epic, or other EHR vendors and associated health information technology
  • Experience or training in the use of Continuous Improvement
  • Experience cultivating productive relationships with executive clinical and business leaders
  • Experience managing complex informatics portfolios across multiple healthcare domains
  • Registered Nurse and other licensed clinical incumbents must hold and maintain current state licensure.

Physical Requirements
  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
  • Frequent interactions with customers that require employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. $39.97 - $62.91
