Wage band: $44.00 to $54.50/hour
20 hours per week

The Infection Preventionist (IP) is responsible for the facility infection prevention and control program (IPCP), which is designed to provide a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment, and to help prevent the development and transmission of communicable diseases and infections.

Under limited supervision, the Infection Preventionist reports to the Director of Nursing and partners with the Medical Director for Antimicrobial Stewardship, and other stakeholders to develop a system of care that promotes sound and scientific infection prevention principles and practices.

The IP is the person or persons designated to be responsible for the IPCP.

Essential Functions:
  1. Oversight of the IPCP, including elements such as prevention, identification, reporting, investigation, and control of infections and communicable diseases for all residents, staff, volunteers, visitors, and other individuals based on facility assessment and accepted national standards.
  2. Development of written standards, policies, and procedures for the program, including but not limited to:
  • The type and duration of isolation depending on the infectious agent or organism involved.
  • The requirement that isolation should be the least restrictive possible for the resident under the circumstances.
  • A system of surveillance to identify possible communicable diseases or infections before they spread.
  • A reporting system for incidents of possible infection or diseases.
  • Implementation of standard and transmission-based precautions to prevent the spread of infection.
  • Guidelines on when and how isolation should be used for residents, including staff health considerations and hand hygiene procedures.
  • Recording incidents and corrective actions taken under the IPCP.
  • Procedures for handling, storing, processing, and transporting linens to prevent infection spread.
  • Assistance in developing and implementing decontamination and sterilization guidelines.
  • Annual review and update of the IPCP.
  • Requirements:
    Education:
    • Completion of an accredited Licensed Nursing Program for an RN.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, epidemiology, microbiology, medical technology, public health, or related healthcare science.
    • Specialty training in Infection Prevention and Control through accredited continuing education.
    Experience/Training:
    • Clinical observation and assessment skills.
    • Proficient computer skills for documentation, reviewing electronic health records, and communication.
    • Minimum of two years of nursing experience or one year as a nursing supervisor.
    • Experience in Skilled Nursing or Senior Care.
    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
    • Current LPN/LVN or RN license in applicable state.
    • Current CPR certification.
    • Must meet national training requirements for Infection Prevention and Control.
