Job summary

York Post Acute in Yorktown, VA is seeking an Infection Prevention Nurse to lead infection prevention efforts, monitor trends, and ensure safety across residents and staff. The role collaborates with facility leadership to maintain regulatory compliance and drive quality improvement.

Requires an active RN or LPN license and valid BLS CPR; specialized training in infection prevention and control is required, CIC preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Schedule: Monday–Friday with on-call rotation.
• Identify, investigate, monitor, and report trends in healthcare-associated infections.
• Collaborate with leadership and staff to implement IPC practices.
• Ensure compliance with infection prevention policies and regulations.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate infection control initiatives.
• Educate staff on infection prevention practices.
• Participate in QAA committee for continuous improvement.
• Conduct surveillance, audits, and assessments of infection control.
• Serve as IPC subject-matter expert across the organization.

Responsibilities for an Infection Prevention Nurse:

• Schedule: Monday–Friday, with an on-call rotation

• Identify, investigate, monitor, and report trends in healthcare-associated infections to support timely intervention and prevention strategies.
• Collaborate with facility leadership, clinical teams, and staff to implement and sustain effective infection prevention and control practices.
• Ensure ongoing compliance with all infection prevention and control policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate infection control initiatives to reduce risk and improve resident and staff safety.
• Provide staff with education and training on infection prevention practices to ensure awareness and adherence to established protocols.
• Participate in the facility’s Quality Assessment and Assurance (QAA) committee to support continuous improvement efforts.
• Conduct surveillance activities, audits, and assessments to monitor infection control effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Serve as a resource and subject‑matter expert on infection prevention guidance across the organization.

Qualifications for an Infection Prevention Nurse:

• Schedule: Monday–Friday, with an on-call rotation

• Current RN or LPN license
• Valid BLS Certification (CPR) required.
• Associate degree in Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or related field required.
• Completion of specialized training in infection prevention and control is required.
• Certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC) preferred.
• Strong clinical knowledge and analytical skills with the ability to identify trends and implement corrective actions.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to educate and influence staff at all levels.
