SUMMARY
The Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) / Employee Health Nurse is responsible for the oversight of all infection control and prevention program activities within the organization, as well as all functions of the employee health program. The ICP provides high-level patient care by reducing the risk of nosocomial infections through consistent day-to-day patient and environmental surveillance coupled with education. The ICP identifies, investigates, and records data concerning nosocomial infections, those present on admission, and potential infections, and initiates infection control measures as directed by national protocols and regulatory bodies, the Director of Quality, and the Infection Control Committee. The ICP directs the program utilizing the standards set forth by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN), CMS accrediting organizations, the State of California Department of Public Health, and the Federal Government to ensure quality patient care. The ICP / Employee Health Nurse also provides clinical employee health services at AGMC.
