Job description

SUMMARY

The Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) / Employee Health Nurse is responsible for the oversight of all infection control and prevention program activities within the organization, as well as all functions of the employee health program. The ICP provides high-level patient care by reducing the risk of nosocomial infections through consistent day-to-day patient and environmental surveillance coupled with education. The ICP identifies, investigates, and records data concerning nosocomial infections, those present on admission, and potential infections, and initiates infection control measures as directed by national protocols and regulatory bodies, the Director of Quality, and the Infection Control Committee. The ICP directs the program utilizing the standards set forth by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN), CMS accrediting organizations, the State of California Department of Public Health, and the Federal Government to ensure quality patient care. The ICP / Employee Health Nurse also provides clinical employee health services at AGMC.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Minimum Education: Bachelor's in Science (Microbiology, Biology, Nursing, Public Health) is achieved or in process of achieving
  2. Minimum Experience: Minimum of three (3) years clinical experience in nursing, Infection control, microbiology, biology, or Public Health
  3. Required License/Certifications: An active license is required for all Registered Nurse or Clinical Lab Scientist applicants; BLS; MAB/ABM/CPI or equivalent within 60 days upon hire, and annually thereafter; CIC (Certification of Infection Control) is required or must be attained within two years of employment; Non-nursing experience with Infection Prevention will be considered with required CIC Certification
  4. Other: Must have the ability to meet essential functions of the job with/without accommodations
  5. Physical Requirements: Possesses the physical abilities, including heavy lifting, and perceptive acuity, e.g., visual and hearing, to satisfactorily perform all direct and indirect patient care functions. Review the physical activities and working conditions form for this position.
  6. Corporate Compliance: Maintains compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations, as well as other regulatory programs and hospital policies and procedures.
