Job summary

MUSC Health, part of the Medical University of South Carolina, seeks an Infection Preventionist to lead infection prevention efforts, partner with clinicians, and influence patient safety and quality outcomes across the system.

You will monitor infection trends, translate surveillance data into actions, educate staff, and collaborate with departments to promote evidence-based practices, while ensuring regulatory compliance and timely guidance.

Qualifications

• Degree in Nursing, Epidemiology, Public Health, or related field.
• Five years of relevant clinical experience for non-nurse applicants.
• Broad nursing experience for Registered Nurse applicants.
• Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred.

This isn't just about monitoring infection data—you'll be partnering with physicians, collaborating with clinical teams, educating staff, investigating concerns, and serving as a trusted resource when infection prevention issues arise.

As our Infection Preventionist, you will help lead efforts to prevent healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and strengthen a culture of safety throughout the medical center.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

• Partner directly with physicians, nursing leaders, and frontline clinical teams
• Serve as a visible and approachable infection prevention expert throughout the organization
• Investigate infection trends and help identify opportunities for improvement
• Translate surveillance data into meaningful actions that improve patient care
• Provide education, coaching, and guidance on infection prevention practices
• Collaborate across departments to promote evidence-based practices
• Support teams when infection control concerns or emerging issues arise
• Help ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, professional standards, and infection prevention guidelines
• Provide on-call support when infection prevention concerns require timely guidance

What You’ll Do

The Infection Preventionist is responsible for activities designed to prevent and reduce healthcare-associated infections and limit the transmission of infectious organisms.

In this role, you will systematically collect, analyze, interpret, and communicate infection prevention data to help plan, implement, and evaluate effective practices.

You will also serve as a consultant and resource for employees throughout the organization, collaborate with healthcare professionals both inside and outside the facility, and develop and implement infection prevention education.

Additional Job Description

Education:

• Current professional licensure or certification, when applicable to the candidate's primary discipline
