Overview

Stamford Health is looking for an Infection Preventionist to join their team. This role is part of a facility-wide Infection Prevention and Control program, which includes the surveillance, prevention, and control of infection. Responsibilities include data collection, analysis, and reporting; formulation and review of policies and procedures; planning, implementation, evaluation, and revision of infection prevention and control practices; and conducting outbreak and cluster investigations as indicated. The role engages in employee education programs and collaborates with Infectious Disease physicians, microbiologists, and other health care providers regarding infectious or employee health-related issues. The person should be knowledgeable about regulatory requirements such as the Joint Commission and CMS, outbreak investigations, and construction and renovation oversight.

Responsibilities
  • Participates in establishing and maintaining a facility-wide infection prevention and control program that complies with regulatory guidelines. Collaborates with all disciplines to incorporate infection prevention principles into current policies, procedures, and practices to provide a safe environment for patients, personnel, visitors and volunteers. Acts as a liaison to Employee Health to promote effective infection prevention protocols for staff and others as indicated.
  • Serves as a principal member of the Infection Prevention and Control Committee. Collects, analyzes and reports surveillance data; coordinates the implementation of the infection prevention program, including detection, reporting, evaluation, and documentation of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
  • Utilizes infection prevention software for surveillance and develops proficiency in its functions.
  • Designs, develops and conducts in-service education programs for infection prevention for all health care personnel, including new employee orientation; assists in community education as opportunities arise.
  • Ensures reporting of infections or communicable diseases to appropriate public health authorities; provides isolation practices, patient management, and exposure follow-up. Assists in epidemiological investigations of clusters and outbreaks and in evaluating outcomes to minimize risk.
  • Participates in hospital, statewide, regional, and national committees; supports selection of care products and services from an infection prevention perspective; serves on committees to provide input and promote safe practices.
  • Oversees infection prevention and control at outpatient locations; contributes to performance improvement efforts to meet standards from CDC, Joint Commission, DPH, and other regulators; supports prevention of exposure to infectious organisms.
  • Supports infection prevention projects, surveys, construction/renovation oversight, environmental monitoring, hand hygiene observations, and environmental cleaning validation as indicated; monitors disinfection and sterilization practices in designated areas; contributes to emergent infections program and PPE training for frontline staff.
Qualifications

Education: Current RN license in the State of Connecticut with minimum BSN degree. Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) or plan to attain within five years of hire.

Experience: Three years of experience in an acute care hospital; experience in Infection Prevention and Control or willingness to be trained; familiarity with NHSN data reporting and analysis; knowledge of Joint Commission requirements, OSHA, DPH, etc.

Other: Medical and microbiological terminology; Microsoft Office proficiency; effective communication and public speaking skills; comfortable leading forums and educational sessions.
