Job summary

Ottumwa Regional Health Center, part of Lifepoint Health, is seeking an Infection Preventionist to develop and oversee policies for infection control and to safeguard patients and staff. The role includes concurrent surveillance, implementing hospital-wide measures, collaborating with the Employee Health Nurse, and maintaining logs of infections and hospital-acquired cases.

Minimum requirements include an MPH or related degree, licensure, and certification within 3 years, with 5 years hospital

Qualifications

• Master's in Public Health (MPH) or related degree.
• Certified Medical Technologist or BS in Microbiology/Epidemiology.
• RN license with BSN preferred.
• Infection Control Certification within 3 years of employment.
• Minimum of five years hospital clinical or public health surveillance experience.

Responsibilities

• Provides concurrent surveillance of infection control activities.
• Develops and implements hospital-wide infection control measures.
• Collaborates with the Employee Health Nurse as needed.
• Maintains a log of incidents related to infections and communicable diseases.
• Monitors infections and evaluates hospital-acquired infection rates.

What We're Looking For

An Infection Preventionist who develops and implements policies governing control of infections and communicable diseases. Develop systems for identifying, reporting, investigating and controlling infections and communicable diseases and assist Employee Health Nurse and other staff as time/workload permits.

How You'll Contribute

• Provides concurrent surveillance of infection control activities
• Develops and implements appropriate infection control measures throughout the hospital
• Provides assistance to and collaboration with the Employee Health Nurse as needed
• Maintains a log of incidents related to infections and communicable diseases
• Monitors infections in the hospital and evaluates as to hospital acquired infection

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Master's in Public Health (MPH), certified medical technologist, or a BS in microbiology or epidemiology
• Requires current RN license with BSN preferred – or Master's in Public Health (MPH), certified medical technologist, or a BS in microbiology or epidemiology
• Licenses: Acquires Infection Control Certification within 3 years of employment
• Minimum of five years clinical experience in a hospital setting or disease surveillance experience in a public health setting
• Computer skills and basic statistical skills are preferred
