Job summary

Majestic Care of Southport is seeking an Infection Prevention Staff Development/ Assistant Director of Nursing Services (RN) to lead infection control and staff education. This dual role combines clinical practice with leadership to ensure high‑quality resident care and regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate will hold an active RN license, CPR certification, and at least two years of infection control experience in long‑term care.

Qualifications

  • Current RN license by State Board of Nursing in state employed; license must be active, valid, and in good standing.
  • Valid CPR teaching certificate.
  • Must be able to push, pull and lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Experience in the long‑term care or working with the geriatric population preferred.
  • Must have at least two years nursing experience with training in Infection Control preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that care team members receive compliance training and education necessary to perform their job responsibilities in accordance with the company’s Code of Conduct.
  • Ensure that documentation for all training is completed in accordance with state, federal, and compliance requirements.
  • Monitor care team member performance and take necessary action for compliance issues.
  • Develop and conduct a clinical orientation program in collaboration with the HR Manager for new and rehired care team members.
  • Provide hands‑on clinical orientation and instruction to licensed, unlicensed and certified care team members.
  • Conduct or coordinate new care team member job training and CPR training.
  • Assess resident needs in relation to staff abilities and design appropriate training programs.
  • Work with the Director of Nursing Services (DNS) ensuring clinical competency of nursing staff through observed skills evaluation and conduct annual competency assessments for licensed nursing staff and CNAs.
  • As a member of the IDT team, support nursing care on the floor during critical staffing levels when required.
  • Collect, analyze, and provide infection data and trends to nursing staff and health care practitioners.
  • Consult on infection risk assessment, prevention, and control strategies.
  • Ensure the community’s infection control reports describe infection types and identify trends.
  • Assist in department budget preparation and contain expenditures within budget.
  • Coordinate OSHA/Risk Management program with HR Manager oversight of documentation requirements.
  • Plan and conduct state and federally required in‑service programs.
  • Coordinate Relias utilization by adding and removing care team members.
  • Collaborates with HR Manager and Maintenance Director for annual OSHA trainings.
  • Assess PPE availability for care team members.
  • Assist in interviewing applicants and scheduling staff.

Position Overview:

The IPSD/ADNS assesses, plans, organizes, implements, evaluates, and coordinates the community’s infection control and staff development program while performing clinical tasks and assisting in other departments. The IPSD/ADNS assists in managing the department of nursing and assumes responsibility delegated by the Director of Nursing Services (DNS).

Key Responsibilities:

  • As a member of the IDT team and to ensure the care and needs of our residents are met, you may be required to support our nursing care team members by working the floor (i.e. working a med cart, providing direct resident care, wound care, etc.) during critical staffing levels.
  • Collect, analyze, and provide infection data and trends to nursing staff and health care practitioners.
  • Consult on infection risk assessment, prevention, and control strategies.
  • Ensure the community’s infection control reports describe the types of infections and are used to identify trends and patterns.
  • Assist in department budget preparation and contain expenditures within budget.
  • Conduct and coordinate with HR Manager OSHA/Risk Management program with oversight of documentation requirements.
  • Plan and conduct state and federally required in‑service programs.
  • Coordinate and track Relias utilization by adding new care team members as well as removing care team members who are no longer employed.
  • Collaborates with HR Manager and Maintenance Director to provide annual OSHA required trainings.
  • Assess and ensure there is an adequate supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) is readily available to care team members
  • Assist in interviewing applicants and recommend hiring of staff and scheduling.
  • Participate in orientation and in‑service education training.
  • Participate in performance reviews and personnel files; enforce the personnel policies of the community, including disciplining and terminating care team members.
  • Assist DNS in ensuring compliance with regulations for documentation from physicians and nursing personnel and ensuring that all regional policies/procedures are implemented.
  • Assist with care planning process.
  • Assist with Continuous Quality Improvement and corrective follow‑up actions.
  • Follow up daily on each unit to ensure changes in status are reported and recorded and that services are provided.
  • Under the direction of the DNS, complete chart audits and report results and progress, and makes recommendations for improvement to the DNS.
  • Ensure proper infection control techniques are utilized.
  • Maintain effective communication with families, residents and community staff.
