Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking an Infection Preventionist to advance patient safety by reducing healthcare-associated infections. You will collaborate with Healthcare Epidemiology and Infection Prevention leaders to develop surveillance programs, educate staff, ensure regulatory compliance, and report findings to committees.

The role emphasizes data analysis, policy implementation, and cross-disciplinary partnership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Allied Health with 2–3 years of acute care experience.
• Computer skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint with basic data analysis knowledge.
• Experience as RN, Medical Technologist, Epidemiologist or advanced degree in public health.

Responsibilities

• Acts as a resource for infection prevention problem solving.
• Completes 24/7 on-call assignments as scheduled.
• Ensures compliance with CMS, Illinois, Chicago and Cook County health departments and The Joint Commission.
• Performs surveillance rounds on designated units and high-risk areas.
• Collects and analyzes infection information for patients and staff.
• Leads and mentors staff in infection prevention; investigates outbreaks.
• Prepares reports and presents findings to CIC and committees.
• Collaborates on corrective action plans and regulatory reporting.
• Delivers infection prevention education and participates in EOC rounds.
