Job summary

Duke University Health System's Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC seeks an Infection Prevention Specialist to oversee surveillance of healthcare-associated infections, interpret data, and advise on prevention strategies to protect patients and staff.

The role collaborates with clinical teams, rounds on units, develops educational programs, and ensures compliance with regulatory guidelines. A bachelor’s degree and IPC experience are essential; CIC certification within 2 years is encouraged.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Microbiology, Medical Technology, Epidemiology, or MPH required.
1 year of Infection Prevention experience preferred; 3+ years in acute care setting recommended.
CIC certification within 2 years of hire if not currently certified.

Responsibilities

Perform surveillance to identify healthcare-associated infections and adverse outcomes affecting patient safety.
Review EMR and surveillance data to identify infectious conditions requiring reporting or intervention.
Serve as subject matter expert on infection prevention for staff, teams, and committees.
Develop and deliver education programs on infection prevention principles.
Collaborate on epidemiological studies and present findings at conferences.
