Job summary

Parallon is seeking an Infection Data Abstractor II to support accurate data abstraction for infectious disease measures from home. You will work with hospital facilities to abstract complex cases and enter data into required systems.

Responsibilities include reviewing medical records, ensuring compliance with CMS, TJC and NHSN standards, performing timely edits, and communicating with managers to achieve measure compliance. A healthcare background with coding or nursing training is preferred.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in Health Information Management; coding/nursing/registry abstraction experience required.
• Completion of a certified coding or nursing program strongly preferred.
• RHIT, RHIA, CCS certification strongly preferred.
• LVN or RN preferred.
• Undergraduate healthcare-related degree required; extensive experience may substitute.

• Reviews medical records to abstract information per CMS, TJC, NHSN and other agency standards.
• Performs timely abstraction to meet regulatory requirements.
• Performs edit checks and makes timely corrections.
• Follows Parallon instructions to abstract reportable cases.
• Assists with case follow-up as requested.
• Attends educational activities as approved by management.
• Maintains clinical knowledge of abstracted measures.
• Communicates with manager to achieve measure compliance.
• Submits data timely through reporting systems.
• Resolves errors causing record rejections.

Job Summary and Qualifications

Asa work from home InfectionData Abstractor II,you will be responsible for abstraction of data for complex infectious disease data.

What you will do in this role:

• Completes abstraction process for assigned facility(ies), including abstraction of cases into the required system (e.g., COMET, TheraDoc, Digital Innovations, NHSN, etc.).
• Responsible for reviewing medical records to abstract information according to the standards of various regulatory and accreditation agencies (e.g., CMS, TJC, NHSN, etc.).
• Performs timely abstraction to ensure compliance with standards.
• Completes edit checks and makes appropriate changes on a timely basis.
• Follow standards and CSG/Parallon instructions to abstract all reportable cases.
• Assist with case follow-up as requested.
• Attend educational activities as approved by Manager or Director.
• Maintain clinical knowledge of various abstracted measures.
• Communicate in a timely manner with manager to achieve measure compliance.
• Submit data timely through the appropriate reporting system.
• Resolve errors resulting in the rejection of records from the data entry system.

What qualifications you will need:

• 2+ years of experience in Health Information Management; Coding, Nursing, and/or Health Registry abstraction experience required
• Completion of a certified coding or nursing program strongly preferred
• RHIT, RHIA, CCS certification strongly preferred
• LVN or RN preferred
• Undergraduate degree in a healthcare related field required. Extensive experience (5 years or more) may be considered in lieu of formal education.
