About the role:

The Infection Prevention Nurse and Vaccine Manager is responsible for implementing infection control policies and procedures at Fair Haven Community Health Care to prevent and control infectious disease transmission within the organization. The individual will monitor and report compliance with infection control standards, educate employees and patients about infection prevention, and help implement infection control programs including employee vaccinations, tuberculin skin testing, and annual fit testing. This individual will serve on the Infection Prevention and Control Committee and provide administrative support. The Vaccine Manager reports to the Director of Medicine.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct infection control audits on hand hygiene, PPE use, respiratory hygiene, isolation precautions, safe injection practices, environmental cleaning, sterilization of reusable devices, and other practices. Provide monthly audit results to the committee and staff.
  • Educate staff about infection risks, prevention, and control, including new employee training during orientation. Provide annual updates and ongoing education across all FHCHC sites.
  • Train healthcare staff on safe injection practices and sterilization procedures, with support from the Nurse Educator, on hire, annually, and with protocol updates.
  • Respond to exposure events like needlestick injuries by providing on-site support and facilitating occupational health visits. Collaborate with HR and leadership to develop corrective actions.
  • Assist in responding to emerging infectious diseases (COVID, measles, Ebola, etc.) with staff education via various methods.
  • Ensure infection control supplies, including PPE and cleaning agents, are available at all facilities.
  • Help develop and revise infection control policies, investigate outbreaks, and prepare for inspections.
  • Collect infectious disease data to inform policies and programs.
  • Serve as a liaison to educate patients and community about infection prevention and control, distributing educational materials.
  • Model best practices in infection control for staff and community.
  • Attend infection control training and obtain CIC certification within 2 years if not already certified.
  • Ensure staff compliance with safety protocols and sterilization procedures, overseeing quality control.
  • Manage vaccine ordering, storage, monitoring, and reporting, including coordination with public health agencies and pharmacies.
  • Educate staff on immunizations and obtain educational materials for patients.
  • Use vaccine reports to improve patient care and vaccination performance.

Management Responsibilities

  • Establish and meet project deadlines.
  • Maintain detailed training records for staff, meeting regulatory requirements.
  • Update HR files with training and educational activities.
  • Identify and solve issues with realistic solutions and timelines.

Qualifications:

Current RN licensure, three years of nursing experience, and BLS certification required. CIC certification and one year of infection prevention experience preferred.
