Job summary

SGMC Health Careers in Lakeland, GA is seeking an Infection Control Nurse to oversee surveillance, prevention and control of infections. You will report to the Director of Quality and support the Infection Prevention Committee.

The role requires an RN license in Georgia and at least 5 years in a hospital setting. Strong communication, teamwork and data documentation skills are essential; some weekend hours may be required.

Qualifications

• RN licensed in Georgia with current state licensure.
• Minimum 5 years of hospital or acute care experience.
• Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices.

JOB LOCATION : Lakeland Villa

DEPARTMENT: VIL - NURSING

SCHEDULE: Full Time, 8 HR Day Shift, 8-5, Monday - Friday

POSITION SUMMARY

The Infection Control Nurse is responsible for providing surveillance, prevention and control of infections, reporting, control measures, consultations, and education. Reports to the Director of Quality and is responsible to the Infection Prevention and Control Committee and Infection Prevention.

EDUCATION

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing or accredited Medical Technologist program.
• Current licensure as an RN with the Georgia Board of Nursing or American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification.

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a hospital or acute care experience setting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patient/family units and other staff members.
• Able to communicate clearly with diverse population of patients/ family/ staff.
• Ability to work well as an individual and as a team member.
• Ability to adapt to new situations, set priorities and use problem-solving techniques in a positive manner.
• Ability to document clinical information, assist in creating policies and procedures, teach, and provide learning opportunities.
• Computer skills necessary for data entry and communication.

WORKING CONDITIONS - ADA INFORMATION

Well lighted, air-conditioned work area. Ability to sit, stand or walk for extensive periods. Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) lbs. Subject to long irregular hours, and may be required to work weekend and/or nights as needed to assist with education. Must be present for regulatory surveys. Frequently exposed to blood, and body fluids, including infectious diseases, as well as hazardous materials, loud noises, and extreme heat or cold in patient care areas. Able to use medical equipment, office equipment, and telecommunications devices on a regular basis.
