Key Responsibilities for Infection Control Nurse:
Investigates any infection outbreak to establish etiology, develop interventions and evaluate outcomes
Maintains required documentation of outbreak tracking
Provide oversight and expertise of wound care and prevention program for residents and staff
Provides job specific infection control orientation to all staff in coordination with the DNS
Provides mandated in-service education to all staff and collaborates with department managers in providing staff with specific infection control educational programs
Educate residents, families, and staff on wound care protocols and prevention strategies
Maintains professional competence through Infection Preventionist Certification and attendance in education programs in the specialty
Oversees the communicable disease reporting process to appropriate state and local health agencies, as required."
Qualifications & Experience Requirements for Infection Control Nurse:
Previous Experience as an Infection Control Nurse preferred
Certification in Infection Prevention and Control
CT Registered Nurse (RN) license
Knowledgeable in regulatory requirements CMS, and in Outbreak investigation
Must have, as a minimum, two (2) years clinical experience in a hospital, nursing care facility or other related healthcare facility.
Must possess a working knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology, infectious disease, and aseptic technique to include standard transmission-based precautions.
APIC Certification in infection prevention and control.
Conduct comprehensive wound assessments and develop individualized care plans for patients exhibiting skin complications.
Maintains and demonstrates competence in BLS (basic life support)
