Job summary

DC Army National Guard Infantryman roles involve taking or holding ground, operating advanced weapons, and working in fire teams to complete missions. You’ll learn teamwork, discipline, and leadership through structured training and real deployments.

You’ll train for 14 weeks of Basic Training followed by Advanced Individual Training (AIT) and earn while you learn with tuition assistance and a monthly paycheck. Strong physical and mental fitness is essential.

Qualifications

• Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
• Must be at least a junior in high school or have a high school diploma or GED
• Ages 17–35
• Must pass a physical exam and meet legal/moral standards
• Must meet citizenship requirements (see NATIONALGUARD.com)

Responsibilities

• Assist in reconnaissance operations
• Employ, fire, and recover mines
• Operate weapon systems under various conditions
• Operate and maintain communications equipment
• Perform as a member of a fire team during training and combat missions
• Process prisoners of war and captured documents
• Aid in mobilization of vehicles, troops, and weaponry
• Use, maintain, and store combat weapons
