Workforce Solutions Cameron is seeking an Infant Toddler Specialist to improve the quality of infant and toddler care through training, mentoring, and technical assistance. Job description

The Infant Toddler Specialist is responsible for improving the quality of infant and toddler care and education programs through training, mentoring, and technical assistance. This position supports child care educators and administrators in implementing developmentally appropriate practices, strengthening instructional effectiveness, and promoting positive outcomes for young children and families. The Specialist serves as the Board’s primary infant-toddler resource, coordinates and delivers professional development opportunities, collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, and provides guidance on best practices, child development, and applicable state standards.

Essential Functions and Duties
  • Provides face-to-face and remote training to infant and toddler classroom educators and administrators utilizing a variety of Texas Infant-Toddler Specialist training topics.
  • Provides mentoring and technical assistance designed to support continuous knowledge and skill acquisition for early childhood educators.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Initiative Coordinator and the Texas Rising Star Mentors on all Board’s infant-toddler activities and professional development.
  • Serve as the Board’s primary infant-toddler liaison.
  • Maintain and oversee the Board’s Infant Toddler Specialist training hours.
  • Attend training and conferences as needed; travel overnight as necessary
  • Travel is required to carry out assigned functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, child psychology, educational psychology, elementary education, or family consumer science; or
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with at least 18 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, child psychology, educational psychology, elementary education, or family consumer science; or
  • Associate’s degree in early childhood education, child development, special education, child psychology, educational psychology, elementary education, or family consumer science with two years of suitable experience in early childhood education.
  • One year of full-time early childhood classroom experience in a child care, Early Head Start, Head Start, or pre-K through third-grade school program.
  • One year of full-time infant or toddler classroom educator experience.
Additional Requirements
  • Become a Registered Trainer on TECPDS within six months
  • Complete the ITSN Specialist program within 12 months
  • Complete all the required training to become a certified Infant Toddler Specialist via CLI
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of best practices in early childhood education
  • Knowledge and understanding of early childhood evaluations, observations, and assessments for both teachers and children
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development and management in early care and education settings
  • Knowledge of social services skills relating to parents, children, and providers in the child care industry
  • Understanding of Texas Rising Star Certification Guidelines and the minimum standard of Texas Child Care Regulations
  • Ability to relate to individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds and low-income individuals
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
  • Bilingual preferred; at a minimum, the ability to understand and to make oneself understood by all Spanish-speaking individuals
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365; presentation program software required.
  • Must be proficient in internet and email usage. Testing may be required.
  • Ability to enter and access data through various devices

  • Frequent (34-66%): Sitting, grasping, bending, squatting, kneeling, talking on the telephone, receiving verbal and written instructions, and talking with co-workers.
  • Occasional (1-33%): Lifting from ground to waist height up to 25 pounds, carrying (10 to 15 feet) up to 25 pounds, stooping, crouching, twisting, side bending, overhead reach, hearing, and reading.
Description of Tasks
  • Lifting/Carrying: Occasional lifting/carrying may be required. Force pounds are estimated to be up to 25.
  • Sitting: The Specialist frequently sits at a workstation or desk.
  • Standing/Walking: Alternate standing and walking are performed constantly when providing on-site mentoring.
  • Climbing: Climbing is performed when the specialist needs to climb onto a step stool to reach items on shelves, cabinets, or ceilings.
  • Bending/Stooping/Crouching: Forward torso bending, stooping, and crouching may be the specialist’s preference when reaching or handling materials at lowered work surfaces and/or reaching for items on lower shelves.
  • Squatting/Kneeling: The specialist can use these techniques when lifting, carrying, or performing position-tolerance tasks. Squatting/kneeling can be applied up to 1/3 of the workday.
Schedule

Approximately 8 hours per day between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with a 1-hour lunch break unless arrangements have been agreed to by the employer and the employee; 5 days/week. Usually 40 hours/week.

Other Requirements

Must possess reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and current auto liability coverage.
