The Infant/Toddler Head Teacher will plan and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum for infant and toddler students.

Job Description

The Greenpoint YMCA is seeking an Infant/Toddler Head Teacher who will develop and execute a curriculum that supports the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of infants and toddlers. They will work within the framework of the Center’s program to carry out its policies, including student assessments, work sampling, individualized plans, and parent/family engagement. The Head Teacher will supervise, coach, and support Assistant Teachers and Activity Specialists as needed.

The Early Childhood Program operates Monday through Friday, from September 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025.

Qualifications
  • MUST have ONE of the following:
  • Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education (or related field) and State teacher certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (or related field) and State teacher certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and one (1) year of experience.
  • AA degree in Early Childhood Education (including practicum) and five (5) years of experience.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) certification with an approved DOH study plan (before hire).
  • Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education within seven (7) years.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, and ability to work with diverse youth and adults.
  • Essential Functions
    • Ensure children’s health, safety, and well-being through close supervision.
    • Plan and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons and activities.
    • Facilitate activities including literacy, arts, math, science, outdoor/indoor recreation, field trips, etc.
    • Develop classroom centers aligned with children’s interests and curriculum.
    • Conduct student assessments and work sampling.
    • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians about their child’s growth and development.
    • Encourage parent/guardian participation in events, meetings, and volunteer opportunities.
    • Supervise and support Assistant Teachers, Specialists, and Volunteers.
    • Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment.
    • Keep accurate documentation such as incident reports, attendance, development records, and parent surveys.
    • Follow all YMCA, Department of Health, and Department of Education guidelines.
    • Participate in meetings, training sessions, and special events.
