POSITION OVERVIEW:

Responsible for providing direct supervision and care for a group of children through a caring, positive, authoritative relationship. Makes children feel welcome and comfortable. Assists in the planning and implementing of scheduled period(s) of activities, which are developmentally appropriate and ensures the safety and well-being of the children as well as providing a model of quality.

I. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Prepares and Implements a program of activities in accordance with agency curriculum for a group of children. Prepares lesson plans.
  • Maintains attendance records for a designated group of children and Adheres to regular work and activity schedules. Assists in food preparation and distribution.
  • Establishes and Maintains control and safety of an assigned group of children. Assures the orderliness and cleanliness of designated work area(s).
  • Serves as an effective role model for the children by Assisting children in a way that develops the child’s role and initiative and Interacts in ways that help them learn.
  • Assists children with feeding and bathroom needs i.e., changing diapers, helping child to restroom, feed child, etc.
  • Maintains a positive and professional attitude with parents, children and staff at all times. Participates in parent contact and communication as assigned. Communicates the child’s progress with parents in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Wears the appropriate clothing for child care duties and Identifies safety hazards and immediately Corrects them or Reports them to supervisor.
  • Attends staff meetings, training events, workshops, etc. and Maintains required level of training hours with required documentation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
QualificationsSPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

This position requires occasional contact with a moderate degree of complexity in communications. Supervision is moderate with some independent judgment and decision-making. Work is largely repetitive with some innovation required. Problems to be solved have some degree of complexity. Requires passing of DCF criminal background screening, pass pre-employment drug screening and fitness for duty exam.

Must have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, be able to relate well to children and be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with R'Club's mission and program goals. Requires ability to work beyond scheduled time, be punctual and reliable, can be reached via telephone and be able to take direction. Must adhere to the procedures for reporting child abuse.

III. SCREENING QUALIFICATIONS

Associates degree in Early Childhood Education (preferred) or CDA minimum required for position. Experience in childcare field preferred.

IV. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Hearing: The ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech. The presence ofthree hearing requirements is measured and required: In person speech, telephone and other remote speech.

Speaking: The ability to convey detailed spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Standing: 35% of the workday. The ability to stand, crawl, crouch, kneel or stoop without difficulty and ability to respond quickly to a dynamic environment.

Sitting: 10% of the workday. The ability to remain in a seated position and get up quickly as from a seated position.

Walking: 35% of the workday. The ability to move about on foot independently and respond quickly in a dynamic environment.

Pushing/Pulling: 10% of the workday. The ability to exert force in the moving of objects such as carts, chairs, large toys, and other mobile equipment.

Lifting: 10% of the workday. The ability to lift 30lbs. independently and lift young children who are moving and wiggling while being lifted.
