Catalyst teaching staff support the planning and implementation of Catalyst's programming for children ranging from infants to school age, depending on the location. Assistant Teachers must facilitate age-appropriate activities, support children's social-emotional development, and ensure supervision in a safe and healthy environment.

Essential Functions:
  • Implement developmentally appropriate curricula based on learning foundations that engage children's interests and promote positive development.
  • Maintain enriching, supportive, and age-appropriate learning environments and experiences.
  • Establish authentic, culturally responsive relationships with children, families, and the community.
  • Ensure children's health and safety through proper supervision, positive interactions, and compliance with safety standards.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to deliver high-quality programs and foster a positive workplace environment.

All staff are expected to demonstrate behaviors essential for successful programs, including:

  • Positive interactions with children and youth.
  • Creating respectful and safe emotional and physical environments.
  • Being punctual and present as scheduled.
  • Physically and mentally capable of meeting children’s needs up to age 13.
  • Implementing safety guidelines and reporting health or safety issues promptly.
Physical & Environmental Conditions:

Staff will be exposed to indoor and outdoor environments and may need to:

  • Identify hazards and take preventative actions to ensure safety.
  • Handle outdoor noise levels comfortably.
  • Perform physical tasks such as bending, lifting, and carrying up to 15 lbs.
  • Work in various weather conditions and terrains.
  • Adapt to physical activities suited to children’s needs.
  • Supervise field trips to various destinations.
Qualifications & Experience:

Assistant Teachers support classroom needs under supervision. The role is entry-level, with qualifications including:

Education:
  • Six postsecondary semester or equivalent quarter units in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related fields with a C- or better grade, OR
  • Regional occupation program certificate in child care accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
Experience & Skills:
  • Preferred: 6 months of experience in a group care environment with consistent age groups.
  • Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, classroom management, and communication skills.
  • Organizational skills for curriculum planning and documentation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team.
  • CPR & First Aid certification preferred; bilingual skills a plus.
Shift Details:

Full Time, Monday - Friday, 8-hour shifts between 5 am - 5 pm.

Compensation:

$16.50 - $23.25 hourly.
