Job summary

Catholic Charities, Diocese of Joliet Head Start is seeking dedicated staff to support early childhood education in a nurturing, inclusive environment. As a Teacher I/II role support, you will implement engaging activities, monitor safety, and collaborate with families to promote children's development.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with six college credit hours in Child Development within the first year or Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
  • 36+ college credits in early childhood education if the degree is in a related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a childcare setting.
  • Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies, and classroom management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to Head Start Performance Standards, State Licensing Standards, and Division Policies and Procedures.
  • Manage the day-to-day classroom operations in the absence of a Teacher I, Teacher II, or Teacher III.
  • Conduct community recruitment for the program.
  • Ensure active supervision and safety of children at all times.
  • Maintain and rotate classroom materials and supplies.
  • Collaborate with staff and parents to develop individualized goals for children.
  • Maintain comprehensive assessment portfolios for each child.
  • Participate in weekly planning meetings and implement IEP/IFSP in collaboration with the teacher.
  • Conduct home visits and parent-teacher conferences in collaboration with the teacher.
  • Provide social and emotional support, and implement curriculum with intentional teaching experiences.
  • Other duties as assigned within the guidelines of this position.

Requirements
  1. High school diploma or equivalent with six college credit hours in Child Development within the first year or Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
  2. 36+ college credits in early childhood education if the degree is in a related field.
  3. 1-2 years of experience in a childcare setting.
  4. At least 19 years of age.
  5. Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies, and classroom management.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  7. Strong verbal and written communication skills
  8. Complete background clearance, physical, and TB test.
  9. Adhere to the Agency’s Code of Ethics and conduct all responsibilities in accordance with the standards outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  10. Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance
