SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION: The Infant and Toddler Supervisor will oversee the care, education, and development of infants and toddlers within a licensed early childhood education program. The supervisor will ensure compliance with the Colorado State Childcare Licensing Rules and the Early Head Start Standards, while leading a team of caregivers and educators to foster a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment for young children.

Schedule: Year-round, full-time, five days per week

SUPERVISED BY: Director Early Childhood Department

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Child Development & Care:

  • Plan, implement, and supervise age-appropriate developmental activities for infants and toddlers.
  • Ensure all activities are aligned with developmental milestones and meet the emotional, social, cognitive, and physical needs of children.
  • Monitor children's health, safety, and well-being, adhering to Colorado State Childcare Licensing Rules and Early Head Start Standards.
  • Track and document individual children's developmental progress and provide guidance for individualized plans as needed.

Supervision & Team Leadership:

  • Lead, support, and mentor a team of infant and toddler caregivers and educators.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings, training sessions, and performance evaluations to maintain high standards of care.
  • Provide clear communication to staff and parents about program goals, daily routines, and children's progress.
  • Ensure staff are following health, safety, and behavioral protocols in accordance with state and federal guidelines.

Compliance & Reporting:

  • Ensure the facility operates in full compliance with Colorado State Childcare Licensing Rules, Early Head Start Standards, and any relevant local, state, or federal regulations.
  • Complete required reports for the Colorado Department of Human Services and Early Head Start, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Ensure that all safety protocols, including emergency preparedness, are strictly followed.

Family Engagement:

  • Foster positive relationships with families, providing regular communication regarding children's progress and development.
  • Coordinate family meetings, conferences, and events to encourage parental involvement in the educational process.
  • Provide resources and support to families as needed, referring to community services when appropriate.

Program Planning & Quality Assurance:

  • Collaborate with the Program Director to develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum and program activities.
  • Engage in ongoing assessment and continuous quality improvement, utilizing feedback from staff, families, and children.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment that meets state licensing standards and encourages optimal development.

Staff Development & Training:

  • Provide orientation and ongoing professional development opportunities for staff in areas such as child development, health and safety, and family engagement.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive work environment where staff feel supported and encouraged to grow in their roles.
  • Maintain certification and qualifications required for position, including training in CPR/First Aid, child abuse prevention, and other relevant areas.
  • Colorado State Childcare Licensing requirements (Director or Lead Teacher qualification preferred).
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or other state-recognized certification for early childhood education preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • In-depth knowledge of child development, especially for infants and toddlers, and familiarity with Colorado State Childcare Licensing Rules and Early Head Start Standards.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to foster a positive, collaborative work environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with children, families, and staff.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and manage compliance with regulations.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and work independently.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The position is located in an ECSD facility that serves children 6 weeks to 5 years old.
  • This role requires working in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Regular interaction with children, parents, and staff is expected.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Meet Colorado Health and Human Services Licensing requirements- see website for details
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field. (Preferred)
    • Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
    • Completion of coursework in infant and toddler care and development is required.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a licensed childcare setting, with at least 1 year of experience working with infants and toddlers.
    • At least 1 year of supervisory experience in an early childhood education setting is preferred.
  • Certifications:
    • Current CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire).
