Job summary

BSI Engineering LLC in Cedar Rapids, IA, seeks a Structural Engineer to lead analytical and design work for steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures. You will move between analysis, design, and field work on industrial projects, ensuring practical, code-compliant solutions.

You will visit sites, prepare calculations, coordinate with multiple disciplines, and provide expert guidance through construction and startup. PE is preferred, experience with RISA-3D is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design for steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and wood structures.
• Develop engineering calculations and structural designs for new construction, modifications, expansions, and existing facilities.
• Visit client sites to inspect existing structures, gather field information, and evaluate existing conditions.
• Analyze existing structures and develop practical solutions for challenging field and project conditions.
• Perform structural analysis using RISA-3D and other applicable engineering tools.
• Work closely with structural designers to translate engineering direction into coordinated models and construction documents.
• Coordinate structural designs with mechanical, electrical, process, architectural, civil, and other project disciplines.
• Develop engineering studies, design criteria, scopes of work, project notes, and closeout documentation.
• Select appropriate structural systems, construction materials, and design approaches based on project requirements.
• Coordinate with geotechnical engineers, contractors, vendors, and other outside consultants.
• Support projects during construction, startup, and commissioning, including responding to field conditions and construction questions.
• Review designs and deliverables for technical accuracy, constructability, quality, and compliance with applicable codes and client standards.
• Manage the engineering schedule and budget for your assigned scope.
• Communicate directly with clients and project teams to work through technical issues and keep projects moving.
• When appropriately licensed, review and seal structural design packages within your area of responsibility.
