Job summary

Nestlé USA in Solon, OH seeks a Plant Utilities Technician to keep critical utility systems running safely in day-to-day manufacturing. You will operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot boilers, refrigeration, HVAC, and related systems, while collaborating with maintenance teams to prevent downtime.

You’ll support alarms, system readings, and preventive maintenance with a strong safety mindset and clear communication to production leaders.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of experience operating, repairing, and maintaining utility systems such as boilers, refrigeration, HVAC, and water/steam systems.
  • State Boiler Operator License or Stationary Engineer License required.
  • Ability to complete refrigeration training within 2 years of employment.
  • Willingness to work off-shifts, weekends, overtime, and extended shifts as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, start up, adjust, and shut down plant utility systems (steam/hot water boilers; refrigeration; compressed air; HVAC; glycol and water treatment).
  • Monitor gauges, alarms, and system readings to maintain safe pressures, temperatures, and levels.
  • Perform routine inspections, cleaning, lubrication, and preventive maintenance to support reliability and uptime.
  • Respond to alarms and malfunctions; troubleshoot and restore systems safely.
  • Repair and maintain mechanical and electrical components such as valves, pumps, compressors, controls, and motors.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams and contractors for complex repairs and capital projects.
  • Maintain accurate logs and documentation for readings and compliance records.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Keep critical utility systems running safely and reliably to support day‑to‑day manufacturing operations. In this role, you’ll operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot plant utility equipment—responding quickly to alarms and issues while completing preventive maintenance that helps prevent downtime. You’ll partner with maintenance, operations, and contractors, using strong problem‑solving skills and a safety‑first mindset to protect people, products, and equipment.

PAY:
  • Starting Pay: $36.07/hr
  • Shift Differential: Additional +$1.50/hr for night shift
SHIFT / SCHEDULE DETAILS:
  • Schedule: B Crew – Wednesday-Friday, every other Saturday
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Operate, start up, adjust, and shut down plant utility systems (e.g., steam and hot water boilers; refrigeration; compressed air; HVAC; glycol and water treatment systems)
  • Monitor gauges, instruments, alarms, and system readings to maintain safe pressures, temperatures, and fluid levels
  • Perform routine inspections, cleaning, lubrication, and preventive maintenance to support equipment reliability and uptime
  • Respond to alarms, malfunctions, and emergency calls; troubleshoot issues and restore systems safely
  • Repair and maintain mechanical and electrical components such as valves, pumps, compressors, controls, and motors
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams and contractors for complex repairs, upgrades, and capital or major maintenance projects
  • Maintain accurate logs and documentation for readings, inspections, maintenance activities, and required compliance records
  • Communicate system conditions, risks, and needed actions clearly to leaders and production teams
  • Follow all required safety, quality, environmental, and operating procedures while supporting strong housekeeping standards
REQUIREMENTS:
  • 2 - 3 years of experience operating, repairing, and maintaining utility systems such as boilers, refrigeration, HVAC, and water/steam systems
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • State Boiler Operator License or Stationary Engineer License
  • Ability to complete company refrigeration training requirements within 2 years of employment
  • Ability to work off-shifts, weekends, overtime, and extended shifts as needed
  • Preferred:
    • Experience with ammonia refrigeration and electrical controls
    • Technical degree
    • RETA CIRO certification
SKILLS:
  • Intermediate troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills across mechanical and electrical systems
  • Working knowledge of boiler operations, water chemistry basics, and utility system safety practices
  • Ability to read and follow technical instructions, schematics, and safety guidelines
  • Ability to monitor multiple gauges and system indicators at the same time
  • Comfortable using computer tools to enter readings and maintenance documentation (e.g., maintenance/ERP systems and Microsoft Office)
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, reliable, detail‑oriented work style
  • Commitment to safe work practices, continuous improvement, and meeting quality and food safety expectations

Pay:$36.07 per hour

The pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities as well as geographic location. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at top of range.
