Job summary

HDR, Inc. seeks a Senior Project Architect for Industrial Architecture in Pennington, NJ. You will lead design teams, coordinate with owner/client, and drive construction documents through all phases while ensuring code compliance and QA/QC.

You will mentor staff and collaborate with the project manager to define scope and schedule, coordinating with disciplines, AHJs, and contractors. Revit proficiency and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or closely related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience.
  • Registered Architect.
  • Proficient in Autodesk Revit and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong knowledge of codes and good planning skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead owner/client and internal meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance.
  • Lead project teams with varied levels of experience to successfully complete and deliver construction documents and intermediate milestone deliverables.
  • Work with the Project Manager to proactively manage scope and schedule.
  • Manage and undertake design activities and the production of detailed documents required for construction.
  • Independently coordinate the work of a multidisciplinary team through all phases of a project.
  • Review architectural documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines.
  • Perform QA/QC and cross‑discipline technical reviews.
  • Write and edit architectural specifications.
  • Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs, CPRs and change orders.
  • Incorporate agreed‑upon changes into project documents.
  • Provide construction observation and contract administration as needed.
  • Conduct work sessions at project site in conjunction with Client Representatives, Project Managers and other disciplines.

Senior Project Architect – Industrial Architecture

Responsibilities include:

  • Be knowledgeable in technical design concepts, code applications, design management skills, digital technologies, and design workflows for industrial-type facilities.
  • Lead owner/client and internal meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance.
  • Lead project teams with varied levels of experience to successfully complete and deliver construction documents and intermediate milestone deliverables.
  • Work with the Project Manager to proactively manage scope and schedule.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or closely related field
  • A minimum of 10 years experience
  • Registered Architect
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project Schedule)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Proficient in use of Autodesk Revit and familiarity with related tools and process
  • Demonstrated graphic presentation skills
  • Must have experience in preparation and layout of architectural contract documents and specifications
  • Strong knowledge of codes and good planning skills
  • Strong commitment to being an active participant of an employee‑owned culture is a must
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Architecture
  • Minimum 5 years' relevant prior experience in industrial architecture (e.g., data centers, water treatment facilities, public utility facilities, operations centers, aerospace, manufacturing, etc.)
  • A minimum of 15 years' experience as a licensed professional strongly preferred
  • LEED Accreditation with experience and/or interest in sustainable design
  • Experience leading teams and mentoring junior staff
  • Experience facilitating meetings with a range of stakeholders (engineers, client, contractors, subcontractors, AHJs, etc.)
  • Preference given to candidates currently residing in the Pennington, NJ or Columbus, OH area
  • Due to client contract requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required

Expected compensation range depends upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location.
Pennington, NJ: $119,221 – $170,315
Columbus, OH: $103,670 – $148,100
