Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an Industrial Safety Professional to work on our ATR Safety and Health team. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our ATR facility in Idaho Falls, Idaho with every Friday off.

In this role you will provide industrial safety leadership and technical expertise to support Idaho National Laboratory's mission by developing, implementing, and continuously improving safety programs that protect workers, facilities, and research operations.

Partner with laboratory leadership, project teams, and customers to identify, evaluate, and mitigate workplace hazards while ensuring compliance with the Department of Energy (DOE) Worker Safety and Health Program (10 CFR 851), OSHA regulations, and applicable consensus standards.

Integrate safety into research, laboratory, industrial, construction, and operational activities through proactive risk management, hazard analysis, technical consultation, and continuous improvement, enabling world-class science, engineering, and national security missions to be performed safely and efficiently.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

• Serve as a safety professional on assigned projects or tasks, providing technical support and innovative solutions that support the assigned organization's mission and goals by applying knowledge of safety practices, engineering principles, materials, processes, applicable regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
• Provide technical support and guidance to line management, including assistance with complex safety issues. Maintain applicable safety programs and policy requirements and communicate those requirements as they apply to planned or existing facilities, programs, activities, and structures. Provide input to facility- and project-specific safety and operational goals and initiatives. Promote established goals and provide feedback to line management regarding progress and opportunities for improvement.
• Provide safety support and peer review across laboratory teams, projects, and external organizations by applying knowledge of safety principles, general engineering principles, industrial materials and processes, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Conduct periodic field assessments, including area and job walkdowns, to evaluate implementation of company safety programs and policies. Prepare assessment plans and evaluation criteria and coordinate participation with other safety disciplines and team members as necessary. Communicate identified issues and concerns to the appropriate management teams. Collaborate with management to determine appropriate solutions, develop corrective actions as assigned, and enter and manage issues and findings in the company issues management system. Follow up with management regarding implementation of corrective actions. Interface with customers during assessments they conduct.
• Provide technical support to work organizations in interpreting and implementing assigned safety programs.
• Evaluate organizational risks and prioritize goals and objectives to ensure the effectiveness of the management assessment program.
• Serve on hazard evaluation teams to identify, analyze, and control workplace hazards. Review work control documents and site plans to ensure appropriate hazard identification and mitigation.
• Serve as a technical advisor to management and customers.
• Develop formal networks that facilitate coordination among organizations. May establish national-level professional networks and serve on standards bodies or working groups as an advisor, participant, or leader.
• Achieve and maintain professional qualification in accordance with the Industrial Safety Qualification Program. Pursue professional development opportunities to remain current on emerging industrial safety practices, regulations, and technologies.
• Provide input to routine reports supporting performance metrics and assurance activities. May develop and deliver laboratory-wide safety training programs.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required:

• Level 1: Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety and Health or a related scientific discipline that meets the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) Qualified Academic Programs (QAP) standards. Alternate degree programs may be considered with an Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP).
• Level 2: Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety and Health or a related scientific discipline that meets the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) Qualified Academic Programs (QAP) standards. Alternate degree programs may be considered with an Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) AND 2 years of experience.
• Experience commensurate with the assigned level.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L security clearance.
• May be designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) based on work location.

The ideal candidate will possess:

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in office, laboratory, and field environments. The position requires hand and finger dexterity to keyboard, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. Employees are required to operate job-related equipment, climb ladders exceeding six feet, wear personal protective equipment (PPE), and operate motor vehicles. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing ability are required to safely perform the essential functions of the position and interact effectively with others. Working Conditions:

Incumbents perform work in a variety of environments, including offices, outdoor field locations, laboratories, and industrial settings, with potential exposure to construction, industrial, laboratory, chemical, radiological, and environmental hazards. Work may be performed in varying temperatures and weather conditions that may result in heat or cold stress. Employees may be required to work around hazardous chemicals, radiological materials or waste, and high-noise environments. Periodic travel may be required in the normal course of work. Regular participation in safety and regulatory training is required. Work schedules may occasionally include shifts longer than eight hours, irregular hours, or working independently, as operational needs require.

Job Information:

• The pay range for this position is: Level #1 ($57,444 - $112,068) / Level #2 ($66,504 - $136,356). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
• Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
• TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
