Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience with major/minor material handling equipment and ability to obtain certifications.

  • Strong written and verbal communication and ability to read blueprints.
  • Math skills including fractions and decimals.
  • Proficient with measurement tools (tape measures, micrometers, protractors) and Excel for metrics.
  • Strong understanding of safety standards in machine operation.
  • Adaptable across multiple department workstations and shifts.

This mission-driven role puts you at the center of safe material movement and shipping. You'll clear assembly lines using cranes, forklifts, and other heavy equipment; orchestrate yard logistics; and ensure finished goods ship out flawlessly. As a senior mechanic, you guide junior teammates, act as a subject matter expert, and help our plant run smarter-always aligned to BAC's values of Earning Trust, Embracing Responsibility, Showing Courage, and Driving Innovation.

Picture this: a hot job comes in from an internal customer. You assess the rigging plan, confirm clearances against drawings, mobilize the team, and execute the lift with precision. Minutes later, you're updating Excel metrics, organizing staging to prevent damage, and coaching a junior mechanic through a new SOP. That blend of leadership, technical skill, and urgency is exactly what we're after.

Core responsibilities
  • Operate cranes, forklifts, and material handling equipment to move and stage units safely, efficiently, and with high quality.
  • Lead daily work, cover for Group Lead/Materials Supervisor when needed, and mentor junior mechanics.
  • Maintain neat, accurate documentation; follow SOPs for shipping finished goods; and keep metrics current in pre-formatted Excel sheets.
  • Organize the yard to ensure proper spacing and staging that eliminates potential product damage.
  • Communicate metrics and expectations; document processes for training and knowledge capture.
  • Support 5S, continuous improvement, and root cause analysis to resolve quality issues.
  • Respond to internal customer needs with a world-class sense of urgency.
  • Promote sustainability-reduce waste, maximize recycling, and minimize energy/water use.
  • Flex to different shift times and work through adverse weather to meet shipping goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by plant leadership.
Qualifications and skills
  • 2+ years of experience with major/minor material handling equipment; able to obtain required certifications.
  • Proven ability to lead small teams; independent, solutions-focused, and organized.
  • Professional written and verbal communication; blueprint/drawing interpretation.
  • Math fluency including fractions and fraction-to-decimal conversions.
  • Proficient with tape measures, micrometers, and protractors.
  • Thorough understanding of safety standards and hazards in machine operation.
  • Excel proficiency for data updates and metric generation.
  • Adaptable across multiple department workstations and cross-functional teams.
Team placement

Reports to the Team Leader, Station Leader, or another assigned supervisor. Expected to provide hands-on leadership and contribute expertise to regional project teams.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Standing is to be expected up to 80% of the time. Additional physical activities include walking, reaching, bending, stooping, and sitting. Fine hand manipulation of controls is needed, as well as hand-eye coordination to perform changes. Typical working hours will be 9:30pm to 6am, however, working hours can include any of three shifts and employee must be flexible. The team is generally scheduled for forty hours a week, and some weekend overtime is to be expected.
