Job summary

W. G. Yates & Sons Construction Company is seeking an ambitious Assistant Project Manager I (APM I) to help execute heavy industrial projects in our Industrial Division.

The role integrates into the field management team, supporting project managers, tracking unit production and coordinating with trades and subcontractors. The ideal candidate has a minimum of 2+ years in heavy industrial construction, with direct-hire project experience in pulp & paper, process chemical, specialty

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or related field (equivalent direct-hire industrial field experience accepted).
• Minimum 2+ years of heavy industrial construction experience.
• Direct-hire sector experience: Pulp & Paper, Process Chemical, Specialty Metals, or Power Generation.
• Experience managing direct-hire trades and material logistics.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct field support to construction superintendents and craft foremen, ensuring work complies with contract specifications, drawings, and quality standards.
• Implement and track Unit Tracking and daily productivity metrics to monitor progress against baselines.
• Assist in developing site logistics, critical path charts, and material sequencing for self-perform trades.
• Perform constructability reviews and participate in VDC/BIM workflows.
• Assist in preparing bid packages, estimating take-offs, organizing bid openings, and compiling bid tabulations.
• Draft subcontracts and purchase orders using company templates.
• Track and process change management, IOCCs, and subcontractor change orders with full backups.
• Initiate, review, track, and distribute RFIs and technical submittals to prevent delays.
• Maintain project contract documents, technical specs, drawings, and as-built records.
• Document technical, financial, and personnel aspects of assigned scope.
