Job summary

HDR is seeking an Industrial Project Architect to work in Charlotte, NC or Raleigh, NC. This role requires leading project teams, managing design activities, and ensuring code compliance. Candidates should have a Master’s degree in Architecture, at least 5 years of relevant experience in industrial architecture, and proficiency in Autodesk Revit. The position offers a full-time schedule and is focused on managing multidisciplinary teams through all project phases.

Qualifications

Job description

We are looking for an Industrial Project Architect who will work in Charlotte, NC, Raleigh, NC, or Atlanta, GA.

Responsibilities
  • Be knowledgeable in technical design concepts, code applications, design management skills, digital technologies, and design workflows for industrial-type facilities.
  • Lead owner/client and internal meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance.
  • Lead project teams with varied levels of experience to successfully complete and deliver construction documents and intermediate milestone deliverables.
  • Manage and undertake design activities and the production of detailed documents required for construction.
  • Independently coordinate the work of a multidisciplinary team through all phases of a project.
  • Review architectural documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines.
  • Perform QA/QC and cross‑discipline technical reviews.
  • Write and edit architectural specifications.
  • Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs, CPRs and change orders.
  • Incorporate agreed‑upon changes into project documents.
  • Provide construction observation and contract administration as needed.
  • Conduct work sessions at project site in conjunction with Client Representatives, Project Managers and other disciplines.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Architecture
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant prior experience in industrial architecture (e.g., data centers, water treatment facilities, operations centers, aerospace, manufacturing, etc.)
  • LEED Accreditation with experience and/or interest in sustainable design
  • Experience leading teams and mentoring junior staff
  • Experience facilitating meetings with a range of stakeholders (engineers, client, contractors, subcontractors, AHJs, etc.)
  • Preference given to candidates currently residing in the Charlotte/Raleigh, NC or Atlanta, GA area
  • US Citizenship is required due to client contract requirements
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or closely related field
  • A minimum of 5 years experience
  • Registered Architect
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project Schedule)
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Proficient in Autodesk Revit and familiarity with related tools and processes
  • Demonstrated graphic presentation skills
  • Must have experience in preparation and layout of architectural contract documents and specifications
  • Strong knowledge of codes and good planning skills
  • Active participation in an employee‑owned culture is a must
Location

Primary location: United States – North Carolina – Charlotte. Other locations: United States – North Carolina – Raleigh, United States – Georgia – Atlanta.
