Job summary

HDR is seeking an Architect for their Seattle office to manage the planning and design of industrial facilities. The role requires a Master’s degree in Architecture, 5+ years of experience in industrial architecture, and proficiency in Autodesk Revit. Qualifications

Our Seattle office is seeking a candidate with the desire to use and grow their technical expertise to successfully deliver projects across a variety of markets and building types, with potential to support architecture work across Water, Resource, Federal, and Building Engineering market sectors. In this role, you’ll partner with project managers to lead the planning, design, documentation, and construction administration of multiple building types, from high‑performance data centers that power cloud computing and the digital infrastructure the world relies on, to water treatment facilities that provide clean drinking water for entire communities, to advanced manufacturing plants, office spaces, operations centers, and maintenance facilities, among other project types.

You’ll lead teams of architects, planners, designers, engineers, technical experts, and project managers to solve complex design challenges with creativity, curiosity, and collaboration. From championing design excellence with an emphasis on resilience and sustainability to pioneering innovative building technologies, your contributions will leave a lasting impact on the built environment.

Responsibilities

Be knowledgeable in technical design concepts, code applications, design management skills, digital technologies, and design workflows for industrial‑type facilities.

Lead owner/client and internal meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance.

Lead project teams with varied levels of experience to successfully complete and deliver construction documents and intermediate milestone deliverables.

Manage and undertake design activities and the production of detailed documents required for construction.

Independently coordinate the work of a multidisciplinary team through all phases of a project.

Review architectural documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines.

Perform QA/QC and cross‑discipline technical reviews.

Write and edit architectural specifications.

Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs, CPRs and change orders.

Incorporate agreed‑upon changes into project documents.

Provide construction observation and contract administration as needed.

Conduct work sessions at project site in conjunction with Client Representatives, Project Managers and other disciplines.

Perform other duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Architecture
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant prior experience in the areas of industrial architecture, such as data centers, water treatment facilities, public utility facilities, operations centers, aerospace, manufacturing, etc.
  • LEED Accreditation with experience and/or interest in sustainable design
  • Experience leading teams and mentoring junior staff
  • Experience facilitating meetings with a range of stakeholders, such as engineers, client, contractors, subcontractors, AHJs, etc
  • Due to client contract requirements, US Citizenship or permanent residency is required.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or closely related field
  • A minimum of 5 years experience
  • Registered Architect
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project Schedule)
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Proficient in use of Autodesk Revit and familiarity with related tools and process
  • Demonstrated graphic presentation skills
  • Must have experience in preparation and layout of architectural contract documents and specifications
  • Strong knowledge of codes and good planning skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture is a must
