Job summary

HDR, Inc. in Pennington, NJ invites an experienced Industrial Project Architect to lead design and documentation for industrial facilities, from data centers to water treatment plants.

You will coordinate with architects, engineers, and project managers to deliver construction documents and milestone deliverables on time. You will mentor junior staff, review codes, perform QA/QC, and coordinate with clients and authorities having jurisdiction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial architecture.
  • LEED Accreditation or interest in sustainable design is preferred.
  • Registered Architect and strong codes knowledge are required.
  • Experience leading teams and mentoring junior staff.

  • Lead project teams with varied levels of experience to deliver construction documents and milestone deliverables.
  • Manage and undertake design activities and the production of detailed documents required for construction.
  • Independently coordinate the work of a multidisciplinary team through all phases of a project.
  • Review architectural documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines.
  • Provide construction observation and contract administration as needed.

Our Pennington, NJ and Columbus, OH offices are seeking a candidate to apply and grow technical expertise across a variety of markets and building types, with potential to support architecture work across Water, Resource, Federal, and Building Engineering market sectors. The role involves partnering with project managers to plan, design, document, and administer construction for multiple building types, from high-performance data centers to water treatment facilities, manufacturing plants, offices, operations centers, and maintenance facilities.

You will lead teams of architects, planners, designers, engineers, and project managers to solve complex design challenges with creativity and collaboration, champion design excellence with emphasis on resilience and sustainability, and pioneer innovative building technologies.

In the role of Industrial Project Architect, you will:

  • Be knowledgeable in technical design concepts, code applications, design management skills, digital technologies, and design workflows for industrial-type facilities.
  • Lead owner/client and internal meetings and participate in reviews with governing agencies for code compliance.
  • Lead project teams with varied levels of experience to successfully complete and deliver construction documents and milestone deliverables.
  • Manage and undertake design activities and the production of detailed documents required for construction.
  • Independently coordinate the work of a multidisciplinary team through all phases of a project.
  • Review architectural documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines.
  • Perform QA/QC and cross-discipline technical reviews.
  • Write and edit architectural specifications.
  • Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs, CPRs and change orders.
  • Incorporate agreed-upon changes into project documents.
  • Provide construction observation and contract administration as needed.
  • Conduct work sessions at project site in conjunction with Client Representatives, Project Managers and other disciplines.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Architecture
  • Minimum 5 years' relevant experience in industrial architecture (e.g., data centers, water treatment facilities, public utility facilities, operations centers, aerospace, manufacturing)
  • LEED Accreditation with experience and/or interest in sustainable design
  • Experience leading teams and mentoring junior staff
  • Experience facilitating meetings with stakeholders (engineers, clients, contractors, subcontractors, AHJs, etc.)
  • Preference for candidates residing in the Pennington, NJ or Columbus, OH area
  • US Citizenship is required due to client contract requirements
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or closely related field
  • Minimum of 5 years experience
  • Registered Architect
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project Schedule)
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Autodesk Revit and related tools
  • Demonstrated graphic presentation skills
  • Experience in preparation and layout of architectural contract documents and specifications
  • Strong knowledge of codes and good planning skills
