Job summary

American Water Works Association seeks an Industrial Pretreatment Coordinator to manage the EPA Industrial Pretreatment Program and supervise pretreatment inspectors. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local requirements and supports program development through QA/QC, enforcement actions, and public education.

You will collaborate with regulatory agencies, review permits, and stay current with permit changes while coordinating source control programs using various software

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and 9 years of experience in the role, including 2 years in a supervisory/lead position.
  • Associate’s degree with 7 years of relevant experience, including 2 years in supervision.
  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of relevant experience, including 2 years in supervision.
  • Satisfactory background check, and valid Alaska driver’s license at time of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the EPA IPP per applicable permits and regulations.
  • Supervise and coordinate pretreatment inspectors and related activities.
  • Develop programs for permitting, compliance monitoring, and enforcement actions.
  • Review permits and pretreatment reports; prepare permits and Stay updated on regulations.
  • Serve as municipality's representative to regulatory agencies and stakeholders.

Job description

Under the general supervision of the Treatment Division Director, the Industrial Pretreatment Coordinator is responsible for managing the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP) as outlined in the John M. Asplund Water Pollution Control Facility (Asplund WPCF) National Pollution Discharge Elimination Permit. Responsible for supervising, planning, coordinating, budgeting and other related activities of the industrial pretreatment inspectors. Responsible for ensuring compliance with local, state and federal requirements for the industrial pretreatment program and assists in the implementation of other environmental compliance programs to protect public health and the environment. Develops and implements programs through industrial permitting, compliance monitoring, QA/QC activities, enforcement actions, Sewer Use Ordinance Implementation, fee and fine assessments, testimony for enforcement hearings or actions, technical document review, public education, and comprehensive report writing. Collaborate with considerable independent initiative to plan, development and implement current and future source control programs using various software applications. Serve as the representative for the municipality to regulatory agencies, industrial users, and stakeholders. Review permit applications and pretreatment reports, prepare permits, and stay current with changes to federal, state, and local pretreatment regulations. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and nine (9) years of experience specific to the responsibilities of the role, which includes two (2) years in a supervisory or lead position.

OR

Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Economics, Construction Management, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Communications, Environmental Health, Safety Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, electrical/automation technology or a related discipline and seven (7) years of experience specific to the responsibilities of the role, which includes two (2) years in a supervisory or lead position.

OR

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Economics, Construction Management, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Communications, Environmental Health, Safety Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or a related discipline and five (5) years of experience specific to the responsibilities of the role, which includes two (2) years in a supervisory or lead position.

Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire. Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License and satisfactory Driving Record at time of hire.
