Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Journeyperson Pipefitter to install, assemble, fabricate, and repair mechanical piping systems across industrial equipment and automation lines. The role requires reading blueprints, operating CNC tools, and rigging for lifting with strict adherence to safety procedures.

You will work with a team to maintain and repair components, support planned maintenance, and ensure precision through measurement tools. Relocation/travel may be involved according to plant needs.

Qualifications

• At least six years of related experience in a mechanical trade (millwright, pipefitter, toolmaker, machine repair) or a US DOL certificate.
• Must be able to satisfactorily complete General Motors hiring process requirements including assessments, drug testing, and background check.
• At least 18 years of age
• Eligible to work in the United States
• Willing to work flexible shift hours including day, afternoon, or night shifts with overtime

Responsibilities

• Follow established safety procedures per OSHA standards and company procedures.
• Maintain, dismantle, repair, and replace mechanical and hydraulic components on industrial machinery.
• Layout, assemble, fabricate, maintain, and repair piping systems.
• Use hand or power tools for measuring, cutting, threading, grooving, bending, soldering, assembling, joining, and installing pipes, valves, and fittings.
• Read and interpret blueprints for conveyor systems, robots, and other automation.
• Operate mobile equipment (forklifts, vertical lifts, cranes).
• Determine loading requirements to rig equipment and material for lifting.
• Set up and operate CNC machine tools (lathes, milling machines, grinders).
• Fabricate punches, tools, steel rule tools and j-sets to exact specs.
• Plan sequences of operations for tooling or assemblies from blueprints or sketches.
• Verify dimensions and tolerances using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators to ensure defect-free parts.

Education
