Summary Description

Cathcart Rail, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, is a leading freight rail services and transportation company. We employ nearly 1,000 employees in more than 100 locations across 33 states, operating the largest railcar services network in the industry, including 18 large railcar repair facilities and over 75 field services locations. Our rail services division also operates three short line railroads and a dozen contract switching and transloading sites.

The general purpose of this position is to apply solvent and water-based paints to the exterior and interior of railcars. The candidate must ensure compliance with all company guidelines and Cathcart Rail rules, and be able to read and interpret work orders in accordance with FRA, AAR, company, and customer specifications.

Responsibilities
  • Interpret work orders to perform railcar or tank car coatings
  • Notify supervisor of materials or equipment needed for tasks
  • Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors
  • Follow safety rules, maintain a clean work area, and adhere to ARS Environmental Health and Safety Policies
  • Comply with quality programs, AAR and FRA regulations, and client-specific procedures
  • Inspect railcars before painting for repair completion
  • Prepare surfaces for painting, including caulking, taping, and masking
  • Maintain paint usage logs and record quantities used
  • Set up and operate painting equipment such as Cup Gun, Airless Spray, and others
  • Conduct inventory cycle counts of supplies
  • Mix paint according to vendor specifications
  • Apply paint and decals using various methods and products
  • Record mill readings and apply decals as required
  • Maintain and store equipment properly
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned
