Job summary

Red Dot Buildings is seeking an experienced Industrial Painter to apply high-quality protective coatings to structural steel beams and components in a hands-on production environment. You will prepare steel surfaces, operate airless spray equipment and inspect coating thickness to ensure compliance with quality specs.

Based in Athens, Texas, the role involves helping maintain shop safety, cleaning and maintaining spray rigs, tracking material usage, and supporting coatings and safety

Qualifications

• At least one year of industrial painting experience; five years preferred.
• Experience painting structural steel or fabricated metal.
• Know how to use airless spray equipment.
• Able to read a wet-mil thickness gauge.
• Understand coating specifications and surface preparation.
• Able to operate required equipment safely.
• Willing to wear a respirator as needed.
• Detail-oriented with focus on coating quality.
• Ability to guide Painter Helper and work in a production team.
• Reliable attendance and overtime availability.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare structural steel beams and components for painting by thoroughly cleaning each surface.
• Apply coatings with an airless spray rig to produce a smooth, defect-free finish.
• Perform wet-mil thickness tests to verify coatings meet specifications.
• Follow work instructions and coating requirements.
• Clean and maintain airless spray rigs and painting equipment.
• Identify equipment issues and notify supervision promptly.
• Provide direction to Painter Helper.
• Label materials according to requirements.
• Wear respiratory protection and PPE as required.
• Track paint and thinner usage; submit daily usage sheets.
• Safely operate shop equipment such as cranes, grinders, and saws.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Support safety, quality, and productivity improvement projects.
• Follow all Red Dot policies and regulatory requirements.
• Complete special assignments and other related duties as needed.

What You Will Do

• Prepare structural steel beams and components for painting by thoroughly cleaning each surface


• Apply coatings with an airless spray rig to produce an even, professional finish without runs or other defects


• Perform wet‑mil thickness tests to verify coatings meet required specifications


• Follow applicable work instructions and coating requirements


• Clean and maintain airless spray rigs and other painting equipment


• Identify equipment malfunctions or maintenance concerns and promptly notify your supervisor


• Provide direction and oversight to the Painter Helper


• Properly label materials according to established requirements


• Wear and maintain required respiratory protection and other personal protective equipment


• Track paint and thinner usage and submit accurate daily usage sheets


• Safely operate or work around cranes, grinders, saws and other shop equipment as required


• Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area


• Support safety, quality and productivity improvement projects


• Follow all Red Dot policies, safety procedures and applicable regulatory requirements


• Complete special assignments and other related duties as needed

Requirements

• At least one year of industrial painting experience required; five years preferred


• Experience painting structural steel, beams, fabricated metal or similar industrial products preferred


• Working knowledge of airless spray equipment and proper spray techniques


• Ability to use a wet‑mil gauge accurately


• Understanding of coating specifications, surface preparation and material‑labeling requirements


• Ability to safely operate the equipment required for the position


• Willingness and ability to wear required respiratory protection


• Strong attention to detail with a focus on coating quality and consistency


• Ability to guide a Painter Helper and work effectively as part of a production team


• Dependable attendance and the ability to work overtime when required


• High school diploma or GED preferred
