Description

The job involves diagnosing, adjusting, repairing, or overhauling trucks, buses, construction equipment, and all types of diesel engines. It requires a skilled worker with documented field experience, typically at least 3 years, who can read and interpret instructions and perform work independently. Leadmen provide leadership and guidance to other craft workers and assist the Foreman while working as journeymen.

Responsibilities

1. Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools like pneumatic wrenches, lathes, hammers, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
2. Practice safe hoisting, jacking techniques, and safe disposal of solvents.
3. Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other parts using micrometers and gauges, replacing parts as needed.
4. Replace defective engines or subassemblies, such as transmissions.
5. Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
6. Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
7. Perform routine maintenance like oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication.
8. Test drive vehicles and equipment to diagnose malfunctions and ensure efficiency.
9. Inspect and adjust safety guards, loose bolts, and safety devices.
10. Weld broken parts and structural members.
11. Attach test instruments and interpret readings to diagnose issues.
12. Inspect, repair, and maintain automotive and mechanical equipment such as pumps and compressors.
13. Follow safety and project rules, including wearing personal protective equipment.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred, with relevant field experience. Knowledge of common concepts, practices, and procedures. Works under supervision, following instructions and guidelines. Not typically exercising independent judgment.
