Job summary

Mathews Mechanical is seeking an entry-level Mechanic II/Shop Helper in Newark, CA. The role supports installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of industrial machinery, providing hands-on training to develop skills for a career as a qualified Millwright.

You will assist with installation and alignment, support senior techs in maintenance tasks, operate basic tools, and learn rigging techniques, while following safety procedures and contributing to a clean, organized work area.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Basic understanding of modern technology.
• Mechanical aptitude and a strong desire to learn a skilled trade.
• Ability to take direction and work in a team-oriented environment.
• Basic math and measurement skills.
• Willingness to travel to various job sites and work in various weather conditions.
• Physically capable of lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), standing, bending, and climbing as required.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the installation and alignment of industrial machinery, equipment, and mechanical components.
• Support senior Service Techs in performing preventative maintenance and repair tasks.
• Operate basic hand and power tools safely and effectively.
• Learn and apply proper rigging techniques, including hoisting and lifting.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Complete work reports at the end of the day.
• Load and unload tools, equipment, and materials safely.
• Follow all safety procedures and company policies.
• Participate in job-specific and safety-related training as required.
• Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the team.
