Job description

Job Purpose The role of the “Industrial Mechanic III” position requires high level mechanical skills to inspect, install, repair and adjust all manufacturing equipment within the facility. It also requires advanced knowledge in fluid power and pneumatic equipment. This includes simple to complex hydraulic systems (w / some servo components), plant utilities such as high volume water pumps and air compressors. The position also requires high level communication and problem solving skills.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintain a good working relationship with Operating personnel in order to maximize equipment reliability and uptime.
  • Analytically troubleshoot and resolve mechanical malfunctions back to OEM Specifications.
  • Routinely check the performance of mechanical equipment.
  • Properly maintain maintenance records, inspection reports, and processing Work Orders.
  • Ensure a clean and safe work area. Must follow all PPE policies and safety rules.
  • Operate within standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Analysis (JSAs).
  • Assist and participate in continuous improvement programs and the training of other employees.
  • Attend Line-Out meetings to communicate daily activities between incoming and outgoing Maintenance shift crews.
  • Make necessary equipment repairs during the shift to maintain equipment availability for production.
  • Complete Maintenance shift reports and corresponding paper work.
  • Participate in production startups, shutdowns, and changeovers as it pertains to equipment reliability and availability.
  • Perform required Daily; Weekly, Quarterly and Annual check sheets as established by the Maintenance Department and O.E.M. suppliers.
  • Prepares reports, forms, records and related paperwork for assigned area.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications / Competencies

  • Education : o High School Diploma / GED o A welding or mechanical maintenance certification or technical degree preferred.

Years of Experience : o 4 – 6 years of experience.

  • Job Knowledge : o Ability to read documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, procedure / equipment manuals as well as electrical / Mechanical schematic drawings. o Must be proficient in the use oxy / fuel cutting torches and related cutting tools as well as SMAW (Stick), MIG (Wire) and Flux Core welding processes. Must be able to perform these skills in both “field environment conditions” as well as in the Shop. o Fabrication skills should include the ability to layout and accurately calculate measurements for various projects and repairs. The ability to read welding schematics and work from blueprints is a must. o Advanced skills, knowledge and working experience with complex fluid power systems including some level of exposure to servo technology. Strong troubleshooting skills are required as well as the ability to read drawings and schematics on pneumatic and fluid power systems. o Basic understanding of simple electrical circuits as it relates to mechanical equipment and sequencing of mechanical components. o Must be capable of executing welds in all positions with all types of metals and alloys in various shapes, including pipes, structural forms, plates, sheet metal, and bar stock. o Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. o Knowledge of general manufacturing processes, procedures, and machinery preferred. o Knowledge of Word Processing software
  • Personal Competencies : o Employee must be able to work with a flexible or rotating schedule which may require over-time when needed. o Read, write & speak English in a clear and effective manner. o Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers. o Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Safety : o Understands all applicable plant safety rules and regulations and makes sure that all are being followed.

Physical Requirements & Working conditions

  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment.
  • Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted on site.
  • The ability to lift 25 / 50 pounds regularly.
  • The ability to respond quickly to sounds. The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
  • The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.
  • The ability to safely climb ladders while carrying 40 pounds.
  • The ability to work in loud, hot environments / extreme weather while wearing required PPE.
  • Ability to see 20-20 when corrected.
  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors
