Job summary

Outokumpu Chrome Oy is seeking an experienced Industrial Maintenance Mechanic to support Melt Shop operations, focused on mechanical maintenance of Electric Arc Furnace and related systems. The role emphasizes preventive and predictive maintenance to maximize shop productivity while controlling costs.

The candidate will work across the Melt Shop areas, collaborating with Mechanical Engineers to diagnose issues, perform repairs, and ensure safety and environmental compliance.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED diploma required.
  • 3 years industrial mechanical experience.
  • Ability to use technical manuals to troubleshoot equipment performance issues.
  • Ability to read prints and schematics to troubleshoot, disassemble, and assemble equipment.
  • Ability to use micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators to take precise measurements.
  • Knowledge of sealing devices and fittings: application, function, and installation.
  • Demonstrated lubrication of equipment and understanding of lubricants.
  • Ability to replace bearings and rebuild gear drives.
  • Ability to fabricate various items.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain mechanical performance and operation of equipment in the Melt Shop areas.

As a global leader in stainless steel manufacturing, we are seeking a dynamic Industrial Maintenance Mechanic to join our team and support the Melt Shop operations.

Objective: Responsible for mechanical maintenance to ensure the proper functioning and operation of all systems in the Electric Arc Furnace, Argon Oxygen Decarburization and Emission Control System’s areas.

This position will support maintenance activities in the event of breakdown, shutdown, and any other planned maintenance as requested as well as perform routine and predictive maintenance activities. The position is of primary importance for the maximization of shop productivity at an optimal cost and the highest quality levels.

  • Perform preventive maintenance activities.
  • Maintain the functionality of facilities within the Melt Shop area.
  • Assemble, install and maintain equipment as required.
  • Provide technical assistance when problems are encountered.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers as needed to diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to resolve them.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers to complete projects within specified timeline.
  • Record type and cost of maintenance or repair work.
  • Support Operations as needed to meet business objectives.
  • Support implementation of Energy Control Procedures (ECP).
  • Maintain environmental and safety compliance requirements.
  • Identify safety hazards and opportunities for improvement in the safety.
  • Identify environmental opportunities for improvement.
  • Any other activities that may be required, or requested, to support the business.
  • Available to work shift

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toes shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards
  • Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing as a minimum includes stairs and ramps) same as ability to walk long distances and demonstrate good balance on uneven terrain or maneuvering obstacles
  • Ability to withstand exposure to elevated ambient temperature for extended periods of time
  • Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, vibrations, dust and asphalt
  • Must be able to work in a high noise environment where the use of hearing protection is required
  • Ability to frequently use hand or fingers to handle or feel objects/materials
  • Ability to work in areas with strong magnetic fields
  • Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms
  • Must be able to communicate utilizing radios, phones and/or intercom systems
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work including lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs. utilizing proper lifting techniques
  • Ability to safely use power and hand tools
  • Ability to safely operate powered industrial vehicles and equipment for tasks and diagnostic purposes, including overhead cranes.
