Job summary

JM STEEL in Charleston, SC is seeking an experienced Industrial Mechanical Maintenance Technician to maintain and improve heavy steel processing equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

You will troubleshoot, repair, install, and optimize mechanical systems, read drawings, perform preventive maintenance, and work with electrical technicians on major repairs and upgrades. Strong safety focus and problem-solving skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of industrial mechanical maintenance experience preferred.
• Experience in steel processing, stamping, or heavy manufacturing preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting ability with rotating equipment and hydraulic systems.
• Experience with conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, bearings, and power transmission equipment.
• Welding and fabrication experience preferred.
• Knowledge of OSHA and Lockout/Tagout procedures.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair industrial machinery, conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, bearings, chains, sprockets, couplings, and power transmission equipment.
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems including cylinders, valves, pumps, filters, hoses, regulators, and actuators.
• Perform precision alignment of motors, pumps, gearboxes, and rotating equipment.
• Replace bearings, seals, shafts, rollers, wear components, and mechanical assemblies.
• Perform welding, cutting, fabrication, and minor machining as required.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, hydraulic schematics, pneumatic diagrams, OEM manuals, and assembly drawings.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to maximize equipment uptime.
• Work closely with electrical technicians during major repairs, installations, and equipment upgrades.
• Perform root-cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions.
• Participate in equipment upgrades and continuous improvement projects.
• Maintain accurate maintenance documentation and communicate effectively across departments.
