Job summary

UniFirst in Richmond, VA is seeking a Maintenance Technician I to join our team. You will handle repairs, maintenance, installation and troubleshooting of industrial equipment, utilities, and systems in a full-time role on a Monday–Friday schedule with potential overtime.

The position requires reading blueprints, performing safety checks, and using hand/power tools, with on-the-job training provided. A high school diploma or GED is required, and a 2-year technical degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two-year technical degree preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Valid driver's license and safe driving record required.
• Minimum 6 months’ work experience repairing industrial processing equipment.
• Lockout/Tagout experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Utilize hand/power tools, precision measurement tools, and testing devices.
• Ensure safe operation of machinery including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Follow blueprints, schematics, and engineering specifications.
• Troubleshoot equipment problems using precision instruments.
• Perform boiler chemical and wastewater pre-treatment testing and adjust chemicals as needed.
• Conduct daily and weekly safety checks on boilers and perform repairs.
• Record and analyze utility readings and take corrective actions.
• Perform routine location/system safety checks and address concerns.
• Inspect motors, belts, lubricants, and replace filters per procedures.
• Inspect, clean, and lubricate shafts and bearings per manual.
• Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
