Job summary

Danfoss seeks an experienced Maintenance Technician at our Ames, IA facility to support plant operations by installing, repairing, and maintaining production equipment under supervision. You will troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems, and work on robotics and CNC machines to keep lines running safely and efficiently.

The role requires hands-on experience in industrial maintenance, the ability to read drawings, and a proactive approach to safety and quality.

Qualifications

  • Two (2) years hands-on experience in industrial maintenance and related fields.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical/hydraulic drawings, schematics and engineering blueprints.
  • Ability to read precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers is a plus.
  • Familiar with fieldbus protocols (Profinet/Profibus/EIP/DeviceNet) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems to identify faulty components.
  • Observe and test machinery operation to diagnose malfunctions using standard test equipment.
  • Repair and maintain robotics and CNC machines (Fanuc/ABB, Mazak/Makino) and hydraulic circuits.
  • Install and maintain hydraulic systems and ensure safe operation of production equipment.
  • Repair inventory and quality control systems such as RF IDs and dot matrix printers.

Job description

The Impact You'll Make

The Maintenance Technician provides support to Plant Operations in installing, repairing and maintaining production equipment throughout the plant, under instruction or with the assistance of Maintenance Technician II. This position reports to the Maintenance Manager and the Team Leader.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Troubleshoot electrical, hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanical systems to the faulty component.
  • Observe and test the operation of machinery and equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using volt meter, Megger and other test equipment.
  • Analyze test results, machine error messages, and information obtained from operators to diagnose equipment problems
  • Repair and Maintain Fanuc/ABB Robotics and CNC Machines, including Mazak/Makino Machining Centers.
  • Replace faulty modules and field components.
  • Install and maintain hydraulic circuits in Industrial equipment, including hoses, relief valves, proportional valves and other hydraulic components
  • Repair and maintain the operating condition of all industrial production equipment, including Test Stands and devices used to move, lift or convey product.
  • Automation troubleshooting to include; A/C and DC Motors, Motor Starters and VFDs.
  • Repair Inventory and Quality Control Systems such as Visual recognition, RF ID and dot matrix printer hardware.
  • Follow all Safety Rules, including PPE, NFPA-70, NEC and OSHA
Additional Requirements

Attendance: Rarely absent or late, pre-schedules and pre-approves absences. Ability to work occasional overtime.

Safety: Follows safety & housekeeping standards and procedures, uses appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), looks after the safety of others.

Quality: Follows standard work procedures, self acknowledges and corrects mistakes, works to avoid errors and get it right the first time.

What We’re Looking For
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate Degree preferred.
  • Two (2) years hands-on experience in industrial maintenance, mechanical, hydraulic and electrical or electronic systems a plus but not required.
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic/ hydraulic drawings, schematics and engineering blueprints to determine problem root causes and implement corrective action a plus but not required.
  • Ability to read precision measuring instruments such as Micrometers, Calipers, Indicators, Levels, and Lasers a plus
  • Strong Computer skills are a plus
  • Familiar with fieldbuses (Profinet/Profibus/EIP/DeviceNet) to include extended I/O troubleshooting Team player that's able to work overtime as needed and willing to learn.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time; use hands or fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to walk and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

While performing the duties of this job the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee has the potential to be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is at a level the company recommends hearing protection. The employee must be physically able to wear appropriate PPE.
