Job description

Cirkla develops and manufactures high performance fiber packaging solutions to help global brands reduce plastic in their packaging. We've built a variety of industry-first packaging solutions such as trays for meat, produce and ready meals, dairy tubs, scoops, and more.

Role Overview

Cirkla is seeking an Industrial Maintenance Technician to support production on shift at our new US molded fiber facility. You will handle breakdown response, preventive maintenance, changeover support and facilities upkeep across a plant that is still being commissioned. You will help build the PM schedules, spare parts lists, machine history and the troubleshooting knowledge the rest of the team will eventually rely on. Our product goes into direct contact with fresh food, so how maintenance work is done and cleaned up afterwards matters as much as whether the machine runs.

What You’ll Do
  • Respond to breakdowns: Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and controls faults on the lamination lines with urgency. Get the line running, then find out why it stopped.
  • Preventive maintenance: Execute PM routines on schedule and help build the program from OEM manuals and real failure history - frequencies, task lists, check sheets and machine history in the CMMS.
  • Mechanical work: Bearings, gearboxes, chains, belts, couplings, pneumatics and hydraulics. Alignment, tensioning, lubrication and wear-part replacement on web handling, unwind and rewind, laminating, trimming and stacking equipment.
  • Electrical and controls: Troubleshoot motors, VFDs, servos, sensors, photo-eyes, heaters and temperature control. Work with PLC and HMI systems to isolate faults - reading logic and I/O to diagnose, with program changes going through the Plant Engineer.
  • Tooling and changeover support: Support tooling changes, setup adjustments and first-off verification, and drive changeover time down as the crew gets faster.
  • Facilities and utilities: Compressed air, vacuum, electrical distribution, HVAC and general building systems. Manage contractors on site when outside trades are needed.
  • Spare parts: Build and maintain the critical spares list with the Plant Engineer and Sourcing, manage the stores, and flag long-lead items before they become downtime.
  • Food safety discipline: Use food-grade lubricants, control tools and hardware to prevent foreign material, and complete post-maintenance cleaning and release properly before the line restarts. Maintenance records are audit evidence.
  • Safety: Work as an authorized LOTO employee with no shortcuts, follow electrical safe work practices, and support guarding, hazard assessment and incident investigation.
  • Record what happened: Log work orders, downtime causes, parts used and repairs made accurately. Over the first year these records become the plant’s maintenance knowledge base.
Who You Are
  • 4-6 years in industrial maintenance in a manufacturing plant, with hands-on breakdown and PM experience on production equipment
  • Genuinely multi-craft. You are comfortable on both the mechanical and the electrical side, and you do not wait for someone else to open the panel.
  • Experience with converting, laminating, printing, extrusion, thermoforming or packaging equipment is preferred - web handling behaves differently from discrete assembly
  • Able to troubleshoot using PLC and HMI screens, read electrical schematics, and work from pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical drawings
  • Solid on motors, drives, sensors, heating and temperature control, and on pneumatics and hydraulics
  • Familiar with CMMS-based work order and PM systems, and disciplined about closing out paperwork
  • LOTO authorized, trained in electrical safe work practices, and comfortable with the discipline a food-contact environment requires
  • Available for on-call, weekend and off-shift response during the ramp. Breakdowns do not respect the schedule.
  • Technical diploma, associate degree or completed apprenticeship in industrial maintenance, mechatronics or electrical technology
  • Bilingual English and Spanish, welding and fabrication skills, OEM training on laminating or converting equipment, and new plant commissioning experience are all preferred
  • Health insurance
  • Travel reimbursements for work-related travel
  • Paid public holidays
  • Impact: Be a part of the early team of a business that will create a large meaningful impact on the planet while being profitable
  • Culture: People who are super-driven, grounded and nice to work with!
