THE OPPORTUNITY

Pro Services Workforce Solutions has partnered with a Fortune 500 corrugated packaging manufacturer to fill this Direct Hire opportunity for a 3rd Shift Industrial Maintenance Technician at their Arlington, TX facility.

This role is built for a strong mechanical and electrical tech who can walk up to a down machine, pull the prints, figure out what's wrong, and fix it. You'll keep a full corrugator line and converting equipment running on 3rd shift, working on mostly newer equipment with more new machines on the way.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

We're a Fortune 500 manufacturer with more than 16,000 employees across the U.S. We have a stable customer base in a recession-resistant industry, and our business is built on partnership: we solve problems for our customers, we don't just sell them a box.

Promoting from within is our number one goal. That same team mentality shows up on the floor, with a good working relationship between management and our hourly team.

Pro Services is recruiting for this site and stands behind this team as a place where skilled technicians can build a long-term career.

WHY THIS ROLE STANDS OUT
  • A manager who loves to teach. The Maintenance Manager is passionate about training and watching techs grow, and makes sure the team has the tools, equipment, and training they need. Every tech has his cell and can call him any time, on any shift.
  • You won't be thrown in solo. You'll spend your first 45 days on 1st shift working alongside the leads and the manager, starting with simpler jobs before you're assigned down machines on your own.
  • Newer equipment. Nearly all of the equipment is 2014 or newer, including a corrugator with a 2021 dry end and 2023 wet end, and more new machines are coming next year.
  • Time off that holds. Weekend work rotates so you get 3 weekends off a month.
  • Tools covered. You bring your basic hand tools. Specialty tools are provided, along with an annual tool allowance.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Diagnose, repair, rebuild, and replace mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems across plant equipment and facilities.
  • Maintain a full corrugator line and converting equipment, including Bobst flexo folder gluers, Sun and Ward rotary and flat die cutters, a Ward flexo, GeoMartin stackers, Alliance prefeeders and load formers, and Mosca unitizers and bundlers.
  • Handle reactive, planned, proactive, and predictive maintenance on both the mechanical and electrical side. The work runs about 60% mechanical, 30% electrical, and 10% other.
  • Service and replace bearings, shafts and seals, gearboxes, and conveyor systems, and rig heavy shafts and components with a forklift.
  • Set up and calibrate machines both mechanically and electrically.
  • Troubleshoot and replace AC and DC motors, drives, relays, and analog and digital sensors using a meter and electrical schematics.
  • Install and repair pumps and support the site's steam systems.
  • Pull and replace hydraulic cylinder glands when leaks come up, with more intricate rebuilds sent out.
  • Perform PMs on all equipment during 3rd shift, respond to emergency work orders quickly, and hand off anything unfinished so 1st shift can pick up where you left off.
  • Follow all safety policies, including lockout/tagout, and keep a safe, clean work area.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • 3-5 years of industrial maintenance experience in a similar manufacturing environment, at the A or AA level.
  • Strong mechanical skills. Hands-on experience with bearings, shafts and seals, gearboxes, conveyors, and reading mechanical prints.
  • Solid electrical skills. Intermediate-level electrical experience, confident meter use, relay work, and the ability to read and follow electrical schematics.
  • Drive experience, including installing and programming drives.
  • Rigging experience, including moving heavy shafts and bearings with a forklift.
  • Experience setting up and calibrating machines.
  • Basic hydraulic and pneumatic experience.
  • Working knowledge of steam systems. It isn't the top priority, but it is required.
  • Basic computer skills, since everything is digital, plus working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong deductive reasoning. You can pivot when your first idea doesn't pan out instead of getting stuck.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations.
  • Your own basic hand tools.
  • Ability to work 3rd shift, overtime, and weekends as needed.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.
NICE TO HAVE
  • PLC troubleshooting on Allen-Bradley or Siemens systems, at minimum tracing a fault back to the cards. Familiarity with Rockwell and Studio 5000 is a plus.
  • Advanced mechanical experience, including mechanical rebuilds.
  • Experience with VFDs, servos, motors, I/O modules, sensors, wiring, cabinet troubleshooting, and HMIs.
  • Control voltage (0-24V), 110-240V single phase, and 480V three phase work.
  • Intermediate or advanced hydraulic and pneumatic experience.
  • Pump experience with positive displacement, air diaphragm, and centrifugal pumps.
  • Basic welding with MIG, TIG, or stick.
  • Background in corrugated, packaging, or pulp and paper, or experience in a GMP setting.
  • Exposure to robots or CNC equipment.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

Once you're trained on the equipment, you can look at a machine, see the problem, get the prints, understand them, and repair it. That matters on 3rd shift, where you'll be working independently. And if a fix can't be finished on your shift, you've done enough of the work that 1st shift doesn't have to start over from scratch.

You own your work, including your mistakes. You're the kind of tech who says "I messed that up" and makes it right. You're a team player who backs up your crew, you jump in and get things moving, and you're always looking to learn, whether that's a new skill or a brand-new automated machine from overseas.

You know how to prioritize. If one repair will take two hours and a more important machine needs five minutes, you know which comes first. You adapt when the day changes, you keep your energy up in a fast-paced plant, and Safety, Pride, Integrity, and Teamwork mean something to you.

PAY AND BENEFITS
  • $36.47/hr (A level) to $39.61/hr (AA level), based on skills and experience, plus a $0.35/hr shift premium.
  • 1.5x pay over 8 hours in a day and over 40 hours in a week, with weekend and holiday premiums.
  • Multiple healthcare plan options, plus retirement plans with additional company contributions.
  • 11 paid holidays.
  • Up to 1 week of vacation in your year of hire, and 2 full weeks in your first full year.
  • Company-provided uniforms and laundering.
  • Safety shoe and safety glasses allowance, plus an annual tool allowance. Specialty tools are provided.
SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • 3rd shift, 11pm to 7am, Monday through Friday. Expect about 5-10 hours of overtime a week.
  • Shifts may extend to 12 hours to cover vacations or unplanned downtime. Weekend work rotates so you get 3 weekends off a month, and plant projects are scheduled separately.
  • First 45 days on 1st shift for training before moving to 3rd.
  • The plant is hot, especially in summer, and fast-paced. When a line goes down, it needs to be running again quickly.
  • On your feet for about 90% of the shift and walking about 60%, with regular bending, kneeling, crouching, and some stairs, ramps, ladders, and crawling.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling in the 51-100 lb range, such as positioning a new motor.
  • Walking surfaces can be slippery, narrow, vibrating, unsteady, moving, irregular, hot, or steamy.
  • Normal vision is required, including color vision and depth perception.
  • Required PPE: steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, Kevlar gloves, and sleeves for specific tasks.
  • United Steelworkers (USW) union facility.
READY TO TALK

If you're a mechanically and electrically strong tech who wants to work for a manager invested in your growth, we want to hear from you.
