Job summary

SMS Mill Services, LLC is seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Planner to coordinate maintenance activities at our Portage, IN site, optimizing workflows and improving overall efficiency. You’ll leverage strong mechanical knowledge and leadership to drive excellence in industrial maintenance.

You will develop comprehensive maintenance plans, schedule tasks, track work orders in CMMS, and lead project initiatives related to facility upgrades.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years mobile maintenance planning experience in the scrap and heavy equipment industry.
• Experience using CMMS to manage maintenance work orders, inventory and scheduling.
• Ability to read and understand equipment service manuals.
• Willingness to travel to different job sites.
• Knowledge of JDE and ReportsNOW is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage comprehensive maintenance plans to ensure optimal performance of all equipment and facilities.
• Coordinate with departments to schedule activities while minimizing downtime.
• Utilize CMMS for tracking work orders, inventory, and maintenance schedules.
• Lead project management initiatives for facility upgrades or repairs within budget.
• Assist in developing the asset maintenance program and strategy.
• Maintain short and long-term maintenance planning and scheduling.
• Liaise with maintenance and operations personnel and third-party contractors.
• Maximize maintenance resources with effective planning; adjust plans for resource changes.
• Identify resources required for planned tasks (parts, tooling, materials, procedures).
• Review OEM guidelines and data to propose component replacements and schedule maintenance.
• Support maintenance team leaders with data entry and work order backlog management.
• Monitor warranty programs and ensure timely warranty processing.
• Develop critical path plans for major shutdowns and review daily schedules.
• Maintain accurate CMMS data and participate in training improvements.
• Develop dashboards to monitor maintenance program success and drive continuous improvement.
