We are seeking a highly skilled, hands-on Industrial Maintenance Mechanic to join a heavy structural steel fabrication and manufacturing facility in Houston, TX.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, including CNC machinery, overhead cranes, automated equipment, and heavy manufacturing machinery.
This position requires an experienced maintenance professional who can independently diagnose complex equipment failures, identify root causes, and complete repairs with minimal supervision.
We are not seeking candidates whose experience is limited to basic building maintenance, preventive maintenance, or routine parts replacement.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy industrial manufacturing equipment.
Perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting on CNC plasma cutting tables, structural drill lines, robotic equipment, and automated machinery.
Diagnose and repair 480V three-phase electrical systems, motors, relays, contactors, VFDs, motor starters, sensors, and control circuits.
Troubleshoot PLC and CNC equipment faults to identify electrical, mechanical, and control-related issues.
Diagnose and repair hydraulic pumps, cylinders, valves, hoses, seals, and pressure controls.
Troubleshoot pneumatic systems, including air cylinders, regulators, solenoids, and control valves.
Repair and rebuild gearboxes, bearings, shafts, couplings, mechanical drives, and industrial components.
Maintain overhead cranes, hoists, forklifts, air compressors, and material handling equipment within applicable qualifications.
Perform welding, cutting, fabrication, machining, and mechanical modifications as needed.
Read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, mechanical drawings, and equipment manuals.
Perform preventive maintenance and identify potential equipment failures.
Document maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections using MaintainX.
Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
Investigate recurring equipment failures and implement corrective solutions.
Applicants must meet the following qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of hands-on industrial maintenance experience in heavy manufacturing, steel fabrication, or a similar industrial environment.
Strong troubleshooting and repair experience involving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Proven ability to independently diagnose and repair complex industrial machinery.
Experience troubleshooting 480V three-phase electrical systems and industrial motor controls.
Working knowledge of PLCs, CNC machinery, VFDs, sensors, and industrial control circuits.
Experience repairing motors, pumps, bearings, gearboxes, hydraulic cylinders, and mechanical drive systems.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
Hands-on welding, cutting, fabrication, and mechanical repair experience.
Proficiency using multimeters, diagnostic equipment, precision measuring tools, and industrial maintenance tools.
Knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and industrial safety practices.
Ability to work independently, prioritize breakdowns, and complete repairs efficiently.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to identify the root cause of equipment failures.
Electrical work must be performed within the employee's training, qualifications, and authorization.
Experience troubleshooting, maintaining, or repairing the following equipment is highly desirable:
Messer CNC plasma cutting tables and Hypertherm plasma systems
Peddinghaus CNC structural drill lines
Ocean Avenger and Ocean Liberator equipment
Accurpress hydraulic press brakes
Roundo rolling equipment
CNC machinery, industrial lathes, and milling machines
PHG, GH, and Demag overhead bridge cranes
Hyster forklifts and telehandlers
Industrial air compressors and blasting equipment
Submerged arc and wire-feed welding equipment
Experience with similar industrial machinery will also be considered.
We are looking for a true multi-skilled industrial maintenance mechanic who:
Can troubleshoot equipment without depending entirely on outside service technicians.
Understands how electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems work together.
Identifies the underlying cause of equipment failures rather than simply replacing parts.
Can complete complex repairs from initial diagnosis through final testing.
Works effectively under pressure during equipment breakdowns.
Communicates clearly with production teams and management.
Takes ownership of equipment reliability, safety, and minimizing downtime.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently.
Ability to climb ladders and perform physically demanding maintenance tasks.
Comfortable working around heavy industrial machinery.
Ability to work in an active industrial manufacturing environment.
Pay Rate: $38.00–$42.00 per hour, starting pay based on experience and demonstrated technical skills.
