Job summary

Abbott is seeking a Multi-Craft Maintenance Mechanic to support operations at the Columbus, Ohio plant. The role focuses on skilled maintenance across manufacturing equipment, including fillers, conveyors, and packaging lines. You will perform preventive maintenance, calibrations, and repairs to keep production running smoothly.

Typical shift is 12-hour nights with rotating onsite days. Candidates should have a technical degree or equivalent experience and strong ability to read schematics.

Qualifications

• Requires a High School Diploma or GED with a two-year mechanical/electrical technical degree or equivalent experience.
• Proven mechanical and electrical repair experience on high-speed filling and packaging equipment.
• Experience with predictive and preventative maintenance; able to read schematics/blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Perform PMs, calibrations, and certifications on filling lines and ancillary equipment.
• Repair, adjust, set up, and rebuild manufacturing equipment including fillers, labelers, coders, and packaging lines.
• Maintain hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment; ensure uptime and reduce downtime.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This primary function of a Multi-Craft Maintenance Mechanic is to provide "skilled trade" maintenance support to the manufacturing, research and development laboratories, warehouses, and office facilities that make up Abbott Park and its associated owned and leased lake County facilities. Maintenance department services include that of manufacturing equipment repair, electrical power equipment and distribution system upkeep, equipment and facilities preventive and predictive maintenance, refrigeration and HVAC system maintenance, lubrication services, environmental testing, heavy equipment rigging, pipe fitting, mechanical, general building maintenance and welding services.

What You’ll Do As a Multi-Craft Maintenance Mechanic

• The safe, efficient, and economical use of hand tools, power tools, shop equipment (Lathe, Mill, saws, grinders, sheer, brake, press, iron worker, and media blasting equipment), welders (TIG, MIG, and arc), rebuild gearboxes and reducers, ability to run pipe and conduit, fabrication of parts and guards, ability to replace chains, sprockets, guides, bearings and all other equipment as needed.
• Familiarity with proper PM, inspection, and safety procedures.
• Successfully perform all PM’s, Certifications, and Calibrations on the fillers and ancillary equipment.

Perform all necessary repairs, adjustments, Set-up, and rebuilds on manufacturing equipment:

• Fillers
• Cappers/Sealers
• Labelers/Sleevers
• Coders, taptones, vision systems and weight checking systems
• Packaging equipment
• Palletizers
• Conveying Systems
• This position is accountable for maintaining all assigned hand tools, equipment, Power tools, and shop equipment.
• This position is accountable for maintaining all plant systems and machines, failure to maintain will result in unnecessary downtime, replacement, or repair.

SHIFT

12-hour night shift - 6 :00am to 6 :30pm – with rotating onsite days

Example of rotating schedule :

• Week 1 : Sun, Wed, Thurs
• Week 2 : Mon, Tues, Fri, Sat

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and a two-year mechanical/electrical technical degree or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience in mechanical and electrical repair of high-speed filling and packaging equipment.
• Experience performing predictive and preventative maintenance
• Experience with Allen Bradley, PLC's Rockwell,
• Troubleshooting and repair of plant utilities, welding, machining, gearbox, pump repair, wiring drives, hydraulics, pneumatics, and steam.
• Must have the ability to read and interpret schematics and blueprints.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in calibrations and certifications of critical precision and sensitive equipment.
• Prior experience in a liquid manufacturing or packaging facility

The base pay for this position is $20.85 – $41.75 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
