Job summary

Veolia seeks a temporary maintenance technician to support a critical 1-week project at our Phoenix facility. The role focuses on troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and safe operation of filtration and pumping systems.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of hands-on industrial mechanical experience, read blueprints and P&IDs, and are comfortable working in an industrial environment with LOTO and OSHA standards. On-site, 50–100 lb lifts, occasional on-call work may apply.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Technical trade school certification in industrial mechanics, mechatronics, or a related field is preferred.
  • 3–5 years of hands-on industrial mechanical maintenance experience required.
  • Experience in water/wastewater or heavy industrial processing preferred.
  • Able to lift 50–100 pounds and work in confined spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose filtration and separation equipment.
  • Test equipment using SCADA, gauges, meters and panels to spot faults.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on pumps, valves and filters.
  • Inspect seals, bearings, impellers and filter modules for wear.
  • Follow LOTO, confined-space and OSHA safety rules and keep logs.

Job Description

Position Type: Temporary / Short-Term Contract
Duration: 1 Week

This is a focused, 1-week contract position designed for immediate support on a critical project.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshooting & Diagnostics
    • Inspect and test filtration and separation machinery to locate the root cause of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or basic electrical issues.
    • Monitor system performance using SCADA interfaces, gauges, meters, and control panels to spot early signs of equipment failure.
    • Analyze historical data and operational trends to predict and prevent unexpected filtration unit shutdowns.
  • Maintenance & Repair
    • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on pumps, blowers, valves, actuators, chemical feed systems, and complex filtration arrays.
    • Rebuild, align, and replace worn or defective mechanical parts, seals, bearings, impellers, and filter modules.
    • Clean, descale, and flush filtration units, tanks, and piping networks according to strict technical schedules.
  • Compliance & Safety
    • Adhere strictly to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry protocols, and OSHA safety standards when working near high-voltage lines and biological hazards.
    • Maintain accurate electronic logs of completed work orders, parts usage, and equipment repair history.
    • Ensure all repaired or adjusted filtration equipment meets Clean Water Act and NPDES discharge parameter limits.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Deep mechanical aptitude with pumps, valves, piping, gearboxes, and automated filtration systems
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment manuals
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical controls, motors, and instrumentation (480V 3-phase systems, VFDs, and sensors)
  • Competency using hand tools, precision measuring instruments (calipers, dial indicators), and power tools

Education & Experience:

  • Education
    • High school diploma or GED required
    • Technical trade school certification in industrial mechanics, mechatronics, or a related field is preferred
  • Experience
    • Minimum of 3–5 years of hands‑on industrial mechanical maintenance experience, preferably within a water/wastewater treatment plant or heavy industrial processing facilityrequired

Working Environment:

  • Ability to lift up to 50–100 pounds
  • Ability to work in tight or confined spaces
  • Work takes place in an industrial environment with exposure to outdoor weather, noise, and wastewater treatment processes
  • Availability to participate in an on‑call rotation for after‑hours plant emergencies
