Job summary

Nassau Candy is seeking an Industrial Maintenance Technician to support upkeep, repair, and maintenance of our Hicksville facility. This hands-on role requires strong mechanical aptitude and experience across building systems.

The ideal candidate will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical/electrical/plumbing issues, and assist with office moves and facility improvements. This is a full-time on-site position in Hicksville, NY, with potential overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school/technical certification a plus.
• 3+ years in general maintenance, building maintenance, handyman services, or industrial maintenance.
• Experience with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and building repair techniques.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; ability to use hand and power tools safely.

Responsibilities

• Perform general building maintenance, repairs, and preventive maintenance throughout the facility.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment, machinery, and facility systems.
• Carpentry, painting, drywall, ceiling tile, flooring, and general handyman repairs.
• Basic plumbing repairs including fixtures, leaks, drains, and restroom maintenance.
• Basic electrical work: outlets, switches, lighting, ballasts, bulbs.
• Inspect and maintain HVAC systems; coordinate external service providers when needed.
• Install, move, and repair shelving, furniture, and warehouse fixtures.
• Maintain dock equipment, doors, locks, gates, and handrails.

Job description

Nassau Candy is a premier importer, manufacturer, and distributor of specialty confections, fine foods, and promotional products.

We are currently seeking a skilled Industrial Maintenance Technician / Handymanto support the upkeep, repair, and overall maintenance of our Hicksville facility.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on professional with strong mechanical aptitude and experience performing a wide variety of maintenance and repair tasks.

This position is responsible for maintaining the building, equipment, and grounds by performing general repairs, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure a safe, clean, and efficient work environment. The successful candidate is resourceful, dependable, and comfortable handling a broad range of maintenance responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform general building maintenance, repairs, and preventive maintenance throughout the facility.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment, machinery, and facility systems.
• Complete carpentry, painting, drywall, ceiling tile, flooring, and general handyman repairs.
• Perform basic plumbing repairs, including replacing fixtures, repairing leaks, unclogging drains, and maintaining restroom facilities.
• Perform basic electrical work such as replacing outlets, switches, lighting fixtures, ballasts, and bulbs.
• Inspect, maintain, and perform minor repairs on HVAC systems and coordinate outside service providers when necessary.
• Assemble, install, move, and repair shelving, furniture, office equipment, and warehouse fixtures.
• Maintain dock equipment, doors, locks, gates, handrails, and other facility infrastructure.
• Perform routine inspections to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and prioritize repairs based on operational needs.
• Assist with office moves, equipment installations, facility improvements, and special projects.
• Maintain the cleanliness and organization of maintenance areas, tools, and equipment.
• Coordinate with outside contractors for specialized repairs and services as needed.
• Follow all company safety procedures and maintain compliance with OSHA and facility safety standards.
• Maintain accurate records of completed maintenance activities and work orders.

Qualifications & Skills:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school or technical certification is a plus.
• 3+ years of experience in general maintenance, building maintenance, handyman services, or industrial maintenance.
• Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general building repair techniques.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and maintenance equipment.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Basic computer skills for completing maintenance logs and work orders.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical work including bending, climbing, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.

Preferred:

• Experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, distribution, or industrial environment.
• Welding, fabrication, or machine repair experience is a plus.
• Forklift and/or scissor lift certification is a plus (or willingness to obtain certification).
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs and facility equipment.
• Work is performed throughout warehouse, office, manufacturing, and outdoor areas.
• Requires lifting, climbing ladders, working at heights, and frequent walking throughout the facility.
• Exposure to varying temperatures, noise, dust, and industrial equipment.
• Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required to support business needs or emergency repairs.
• This is a full time, on-site position in Hicksville, NY, requiring the ability to travel between buildings and locations.
