Job summary

Novo Nordisk is offering a part-time position in Durham, North Carolina for Industrial Maintenance Apprentices enrolled in relevant educational programs. Apprentices will learn to operate and maintain industrial production systems under supervision.

Applicants must have a high school diploma and be actively enrolled in a suitable post-secondary program. The role includes physical requirements such as moving equipment and working in various environments while following safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • Must maintain active enrollment in good standing in the apprenticeship program.
  • Experience in planning and organizing work is a plus.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of maintenance procedures and plans.
  • Learn to perform corrective and preventive maintenance.
  • Observe how to document maintenance activities in SAP.

Position

Part‑time position for selected students enrolled in Durham Technical Community College (DTCC), or a comparable post‑secondary institution's educational program(s), directly related to industrial maintenance.

Industrial Maintenance Apprentices will learn, under direct supervision, how to: operate, maintain & improve industrial production systems & equipment reliability; reduce system/equipment downtime; support operation of assigned processes.

Relationships

Report to Senior Project Manager, OFP.

Essential Functions
  • Follow all safety & environmental requirements in the performance of duties.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in performance of duties.
  • Under direct supervision, support the development and establishment of maintenance procedures, maintenance plans & spare parts lists for assigned processes.
  • Observe and learn how to perform corrective & preventive maintenance.
  • Learn how to interpret mechanical & electrical specifications, drawings & other technical data sheets.
  • Learn how all maintenance activities are correctly documented in SAP.
  • Learn how maintenance contributes to performance improvement & reliability of process equipment.
  • Learn how to use Systematic Problem Solving (SPS) tools to establish root cause analysis & resolve equipment issues. Experience hands‑on opportunities to work with responsible engineers & manufacturing personnel to troubleshoot equipment problems.
  • Suggest practical changes or improvements to equipment & department work practices.
  • Other accountabilities, as assigned.
Physical Requirements

Move equipment & supplies weighing up to 33 pounds within the facility using various body positions.

Routinely operate & inspect manufacturing equipment using hands; be on feet for up to a 12-hour shift.

May require corrected vision to 20/25 and color vision; may require wearing latex gloves; work occasionally at elevated heights or within confined spaces; may work in outdoor weather or extremely cold environments.

Ability to pass a driving exam for powered industrial trucks.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Current enrollment in an appropriate post‑secondary educational program directly related to industrial maintenance.
  • Maintaining active enrollment in good standing is a condition of participation in the Novo Nordisk Apprenticeship Program.
  • Experience in planning/organizing work, managing execution, checking results & revising work plans a plus.
  • Basic computer literacy, including the ability to work with MS Office applications such as Word & Excel.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and skill in the use of small hand & power tools, mechanical equipment & materials applicable to industrial maintenance & pharmaceutical production preferred.
  • Demonstrates a systematic approach to problem solving & troubleshooting.
